Delta State Police Commissioner Commits to Enhanced Public Safety

The Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Yemi Oyeniyi, has reaffirmed his commitment to implementing robust measures aimed at safeguarding the lives and properties of residents in the state. During a meeting with Mr. Aruga Joe Omokaro, Editor-in-Chief and Managing Director of Supreme Newspapers, in his Asaba office, Mr. Oyeniyi emphasized that his command will aggressively mobilize resources to ensure a secure environment.
Mr. Oyeniyi outlined that under his stewardship, the police will continue to collaborate with various stakeholders, including different security agencies, to effectively combat crime and bolster community peace. He stressed the importance of collective responsibility, noting that security is a concern shared by all citizens dedicated to their community’s welfare.
During the visit, Mr. Omokaro commended Mr. Oyeniyi’s early efforts since his deployment a few months ago, expressing confidence in his leadership. He highlighted that Oyeniyi’s community policing strategy has begun to produce tangible results, particularly in reducing violent crime across Delta State.
Since Mr. Oyeniyi’s assignment in February 2023, there has been a notable decline in violent crime. Mr. Omokaro remarked, “We have observed that the state has become significantly more peaceful and that violent crimes have decreased to acceptable levels, largely due to your dedicated initiatives aimed at eradicating criminal activities.”
He also recognized that these improvements stem from effective community policing strategies and appealed for enhanced collaboration with the Delta State Police Command. Mr. Omokaro noted that Supreme Newspapers has established strong partnerships with various security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), positioning them to offer comprehensive media coverage within Nigeria and internationally.
Mr. Omokaro suggested forging a deeper working relationship between Supreme Newspapers and the police command, emphasizing the potential for impactful media engagement and promotion of public safety. He described the publication’s extensive network of interviews with national security entities, including military officials and the Office of the President, showcasing the broad scope of their reporting.
As the meeting concluded, Mr. Omokaro expressed his hope for Mr. Oyeniyi’s continued success as Delta State Police Commissioner, praying for wisdom and good health to further contribute to national security efforts. The event was also attended by the Delta State Police Command Spokesman, Mr. Bright Edafe, Superintendent of Police, alongside several media representatives.
