African Democratic Congress and Social Democratic Party Critique Tinubu Administration’s Performance
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the presidential candidate for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the upcoming 2027 elections, Adewole Adebayo, have leveled serious criticisms against President Bola Tinubu’s administration. They assert that his tenure has exacerbated economic hardship, heightened insecurity, and fueled public dissatisfaction across Nigeria.
In a recent statement, ADC’s National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi highlighted a growing loss of faith among Nigerians in the Tinubu administration. He referenced a national survey conducted by Eagle Badger Data Analytics, which purportedly reveals that many citizens have lost confidence in the government as the 2027 general elections approach.
Reports indicate that President Tinubu’s approval rating stands at a dismal 30%, a figure the ADC describes as indicative of “complete failure.” These statistics underscore widespread public discontent stemming from escalating economic challenges, deteriorating security conditions, and declining living standards throughout the nation.
The ADC pointed out that nearly 70% of Nigerians express dissatisfaction with the country’s direction, asserting that this sentiment is not merely political but indicative of a national rejection of the government’s policies. The criticism comes in light of the EBDA survey findings, which reported that only 30.2% of Nigerians approve of Tinubu’s leadership, while 47.5% disapprove.
Moreover, the survey revealed a grim outlook for many Nigerians, with a majority believing their living conditions have worsened since Tinubu assumed office in May 2023. This alarming trend points to failures in economic management, job creation, and security, with rising inflation and soaring food prices compounding the difficulties faced by everyday citizens.
As food prices surge and the costs of transportation, unemployment, and business closures escalate, the ADC emphasizes that these economic pressures are ravaging household budgets. Adebayo stressed that, despite hard work, many families struggle to afford basic necessities like food, education, and healthcare. He noted that recent economic reforms, including the elimination of fuel subsidies, have only intensified these challenges.
In addition to economic woes, Adebayo voiced concerns over the weakening political competition in Nigeria, warning of a potential shift toward authoritarian rule. He called for the establishment of stronger democratic institutions and a more engaged opposition. With preparations underway for the 2027 elections, he urged Nigerians to support leadership prioritizing accountability and national development, emphasized the need for a united opposition to defend democratic ideals.
Echoing these sentiments, Oba Oladipo Oladotun, the Emir of Afenifere, expressed alarm over the escalating insecurity and economic distress affecting many citizens. He underscored the urgent need for policy reforms focusing on job creation, agricultural development, education, healthcare, housing, and infrastructure to protect Nigeria’s democratic fabric.
In response to the criticism, Felix Molka, the national communications secretary for the All Progressives Congress, declined to comment, stating he does not engage with such statements.
