New Strategic Partnership to Boost African Action Film Production
A dynamic collaboration has emerged between Idris Elba’s 22 Summers, Moses Babatope’s Nile Media Entertainment Group, and Chee Keong Chan’s Action Extreme. This partnership aims to produce a series of action films that spotlight stories and talent from West Africa.
Focus on High-Octane, Locally Rooted Content
The initiative is designed to develop and deliver high-octane, commercially-driven action films that resonate with African narratives. Additionally, it seeks to cultivate a sustainable production ecosystem that nurtures local creators and promotes globally competitive filmmaking within the genre.
Commitment to Local Talent and Storytelling
All partners are committed to amplifying new talent and expanding avenues for sharing African stories on a global scale. The collaboration includes training and mentorship programs aimed at enhancing the skills of local filmmakers.
Aiming for Global Reach
This partnership aspires to establish a reliable pipeline of African genre content that appeals to both theatrical and streaming audiences worldwide. Industry experts increasingly recognize the action genre as one of the most exportable storytelling formats, capable of transcending linguistic barriers while showcasing local culture and talent.
Upcoming Film Releases and Creative Leadership
Plans are in place to announce the first film in Q4 2026, followed by a second installment in Q1 2027. Idris Elba and Geena Carter will take on the roles of executive producers, with Elba also set to direct the first film in a co-production capacity. Chee Keong Cheung will helm the first film as director and producer for Action Extreme, while Moses Babatope will oversee production for Nile Motion Pictures. African distribution will be managed by Nile Entertainment.
The Vision for a Sustainable Film Ecosystem
Moses Babatope, Group CEO of Nile Media Entertainment Group, emphasized the significance of the partnership: “This initiative is a critical step towards establishing a globally competitive African cinema. While Africa possesses rich stories and exceptional talent, the continent remains underrepresented in the action genre.” He articulated the goal of not just producing films, but rather fostering a sustainable ecosystem that integrates production, talent development, and distribution.
Common Goals in Action Film Production
Chee Keong Cheung, CEO of Action Xtreme, echoed this sentiment, stating, “Working alongside Idris Elba and Moses Babatope on this collaborative journey is a tremendous honor. Our experience producing ‘Son of the Soil’ in Nigeria revealed the vast pool of talent and creative potential in Africa, deserving of a global platform.” He believes that the partnership will yield films that are commercially appealing yet authentically African.
Strengthening Africa’s Film Industry
The initiative is designed to reinforce the film industry in Africa through collaboration. Idris Elba noted the importance of unity and a shared vision in achieving success. He stated that such partnerships are essential for global recognition and investment in Africa’s film sector. Gina Carter, creative director at 22 Summers, expressed excitement about promoting fresh African voices within the action genre and combining strengths to produce films with worldwide appeal.
