Governor Adeleke’s Team Criticizes APC’s Campaign Promises
As the Osun State gubernatorial election approaches on August 15, Governor Ademola Adeleke’s electoral council has intensified its criticism of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC). They have accused the APC of making empty promises to voters, reflecting a failure to fulfill its commitments during its time in office, which the council claims has diminished the party’s support since the 2022 elections.
Response to APC Candidate’s Promises
The Imole Electoral Council (TICC), through its spokesperson Permi Olajembesi, issued a statement on Saturday attacking the APC on its recent campaign pledges. Olajembesi characterized these promises as an acknowledgment of neglect by former Governor Gboyega Oyetola’s administration, which left vital sectors of the economy and public services in dire straits, compelling the current administration to undertake significant reforms.
Irony in Campaign Messaging
In his remarks, Olajembesi pointed out the irony of the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, campaigning on initiatives that were not executed during his party’s governance. “It is perplexing that those who had governmental authority under the APC are now trying to win votes based on projects they failed to deliver when they were in power,” he stated.
Adeleke Administration Defends Achievements
Defending their administration’s record, Olajembesi highlighted the Adeleke government’s commitment to key areas such as healthcare, education, infrastructure, and economic empowerment, emphasizing policies designed to enhance the quality of life for residents. The administration has enrolled over 24,000 pensioners and 10,000 individuals with disabilities in a health insurance initiative, settled unpaid hazard pay for healthcare workers, and renovated more than 200 primary health care centers throughout the state.
Recent Recognitions and Economic Initiatives
Under Adeleke’s leadership, the state received top honors in the National Primary Health Care Awards for both 2024 and 2025, marking a significant achievement in healthcare reform. In addition to healthcare advancements, Olajembesi reported that over N2 billion has been allocated to cooperatives and small to medium-sized enterprises, benefitting over 15,000 businesses that received subsidies of N250,000 each.
Debt Reduction and Educational Investments
Moreover, the Adeleke administration has made strides in fiscal responsibility, reducing the domestic debt inherited from the previous government from NOK 148 billion to NOK 83 billion, while lowering the external debt from $91 million to $75 million. The administration has also focused on the education sector by hiring over 2,000 teachers, constructing more than 300 classrooms, supporting over 8,000 farmers, and initiating substantial road construction projects across Osun State.
APC’s Credibility Questioned
According to the campaign council, the APC lacks the credibility to advocate for development promises, given its track record of failing to implement similar initiatives during its governance. This ongoing political battle sets the stage for a contentious election cycle in Osun State, with both parties striving to sway voter sentiment ahead of the critical vote.
