Less than 24 hours after the resignation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Bwari Regional Council chairmanship candidate, Mr. Julius Adamu, in favor of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Mr. Joshua Ishaku Musa, another PDP candidate has resigned in the FCT Regional Council elections scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2026.
My lord. Zadona Dantani is the latest PDP chairperson candidate to join the trend after APC candidate John Dantani announced that he would be withdrawing his candidacy. Mr. Christopher Zakka Maikalang in the Abuja City Area Council (AMAC) chairmanship election.
Dantani said he decided to resign following the intervention of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
He also explained that he had also submitted a letter of resignation to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In the video recording, he said: “My name is Zadona Dantani, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship candidate for Abuja City Regional Council in Saturday’s regional council elections.
“We would like to sincerely thank everyone who has supported us. By the grace of God, we are not doing it for personal gain.
“I am here to tell the people that as a candidate to stand in this election, I have agreed to this today based on the intervention of the Honorable Minister of the FCT, Lawyer Nyesom Wike. He is the leader of our party, the leader of the FCT, and he has brought it to my attention to let us know that this is a Brotherhood election.”
“I am also doing this to support the good deeds of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“I have consulted extensively and, by the grace of God, have agreed that I will no longer contest against my brother, Mr. Christopher Zacca Maikalang.
“In doing so, I have today also submitted my resignation to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“I therefore call on all my supporters to come out in force across Ward 12 of the Abuja City Area Council to support the candidate of the APC, Mr. Christopher Maikalang.”
A copy of the letter of withdrawal dated February 18, 2026 and addressed to the INEC Chairman entitled “Withdrawal from the contest for the Chairmanship of Abuja City Area Council (AMAC) Elections” was sighted by our correspondent.
The correspondent reads: “I, Mr. Zadona Dantani, a member and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of Gosa Village, along Airport Road, FCT Abuja, humbly inform you that after due consideration and thorough consultation with my family and stakeholders, I have decided to voluntarily withdraw my candidacy for the post of Chairman of the Abuja City Regional Council in the next local council elections scheduled for February 21, 2026.
“I would like to clearly state that this decision to withdraw my candidacy was of my own free will.
“thank you.”
