Pop Star Responds to Security Incident Involving Young Fan
Chapel Lawn has responded to growing fan concerns after Brazilian footballer Jorginho Frero accused the security team of pop star Roan of mishandling an encounter with his 11-year-old daughter, leaving her “extremely upset.”
Frero shared that he, his wife Katherine Harding, and her daughter from a previous relationship with actor Jude Law were staying at the same hotel as Roan during Lollapalooza in Sao Paulo. In an Instagram Story over the weekend, Harding detailed an encounter where a security guard allegedly approached her daughter at breakfast, speaking to her in an “aggressive manner” and accusing her of belittling Roan.
The fan’s daughter, who had been excited to see Roan perform, had simply walked past the singer’s table, glanced over, smiled, and returned to her seat with her mother. Frero emphasized that his daughter did not speak or make any requests during this brief encounter.
In response, Roan took to her Instagram Story the following day, asserting that she had not witnessed any altercation involving women or children and clarified that the security guard in question was not part of her personal team.
“I didn’t ask the security guard to approach this mother and child,” Roan stated. “They didn’t come to me or engage in any inappropriate behavior. It’s unfair to assume negative intentions in this situation without evidence of wrongdoing.”
Later, Roan extended her apology to Frero’s family, expressing empathy for the distress caused. “I don’t harbor any ill feelings toward my fans or their children. It’s unfortunate if anyone felt uncomfortable; that’s truly sad,” she said.
Frero remarked that his daughter had been overjoyed at the prospect of meeting an artist she once admired and even crafted a sign in tribute to Roan for the festival. However, after the encounter with the security guard, she was left in tears, and Frero described the ordeal as disheartening. “It’s disappointing to experience such treatment from those who should appreciate the fan experience. Fans are the lifeblood of this industry,” he noted.
Harding later shared on her Instagram Story that instead of attending Roan’s performance as planned, they opted for shopping and dinner following the incident, as her daughter no longer wished to see the show.
Public reaction escalated with the involvement of Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere, who announced via social media that Roan would be barred from performing at the city’s Todo Mundo No Rio music festival for the duration of his tenure.
This incident follows a recent viral video in which Roan confronted a group of paparazzi in Paris, revealing her frustrations about feeling “neglected as a human being” and urging them to respect her boundaries. The singer has been open about her struggle to set limits with the media and fans, criticizing what she deems “creepy behavior” directed at her.
In a previous Instagram post from 2024, Roan articulated her stance on fan interactions, stating, “I disagree with the notion that I owe any reciprocal exchange of energy or attention to individuals I do not know or trust. Admiration does not negate the gratitude I feel for those who respect my community and my personal boundaries.”
