Gboyega Nasiru Isiaka Announces 2027 Ogun State Governorship Bid
During a recent event, Hon Gboyega Nasiru Isiaka, a representative from the Imeko Afon/Yewa North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, officially declared his intention to contest the Ogun State governorship election in 2027. This announcement mirrors President Bola Tinubu’s earlier “Emilokan” pledge made during the APC presidential primaries in 2023.
Popularly known as GNI, Isiaka is currently affiliated with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and serves as the Chairman of the House Committee on National Planning and Economic Development. His aspiration to govern Ogun State was revealed during a media interaction in Abeokuta, where he expressed confidence in his qualifications for the role.
In his remarks, Isiaka highlighted that this would be his fourth attempt at securing the state’s top leadership position, asserting that he stands out as the most experienced candidate in the race. He emphasized a commitment to enhancing Nigeria’s economic landscape, focusing on industrialization, healthcare reform, education improvements, and job creation.
The aspirant stated, “I have been attending Meet and Greet sessions for the past three weeks.” He went on to clarify, “While I intend to formally declare my candidacy soon, I felt it important as a key stakeholder to inform the media of my plans.” He underscored his deep-rooted ties to Ogun State, asserting that his local understanding positions him uniquely in the gubernatorial race.
Isiaka further asserted that his comprehensive experience equips him to effectively lead the state. Citing his distinguished academic credentials and extensive background in governance, he remarked, “No other aspirant has the same level of experience in Ogun,” thereby reinforcing his claim as a well-prepared candidate.
If given the opportunity to govern, Isiaka intends to build upon the accomplishments of the current administration led by Dapo Abiodun. He expressed optimism about the potential for significant developments, including port construction, advancements in oil production, and enhancements to healthcare and education. “Our vision is to create an economically viable state that enriches the lives of our citizens,” he added.
While he professed loyalty to the party’s directives, Isiaka urged for a transparent and equitable selection process for the APC’s gubernatorial candidate. He called upon party leaders to ensure that any candidate nominated receives broad support from all factions within the party.
This latest bid marks Isiaka’s fourth endeavor to lead Ogun State following prior attempts in 2011, 2015, and 2019, all of which were unsuccessful. “Our resolve is stronger than ever. We seek a fair opportunity for all aspirants within Ogun West and the larger Ogun State,” he concluded.
