Intensified Race for National Communications Manager Position at NANTA
The competition for the National Communications Manager role at the National Association of Nigerian Travel Agents (NANTA) is heating up. Travel entrepreneur and industry expert Mr. Oludayo Taiwo Gideon, commonly known as Gidibos, has unveiled a strategic vision aimed at enhancing the association’s visibility, media influence, and engagement with its members.
Vision for Effective Communication
In a recent podcast discussing his campaign, Gideon articulated his perspective on the association’s communication strategy. He believes that NANTA, which has been serving the industry for 50 years, requires “deliberate, structured and positive communication” that goes beyond standard advertising practices. “Advertising is not merely about posting photos; it’s about raising awareness, safeguarding your reputation, and amplifying the voices of members,” he stated.
Proposed Public Relations Agenda
Gideon presented a five-point agenda that he plans to implement if elected. His foremost priority is to ensure quality representation, which he believes is essential for positioning NANTA both locally and internationally. He underscored the necessity for associations to maintain a unified, professional image that reflects their heritage and relevance in the travel sector.
Enhancing Digital Presence
Recognizing the shift towards online platforms, Gideon stressed the importance of bolstering NANTA’s digital communications ecosystem. He asserts that an enhanced digital presence will not only increase visibility but also empower the association to control its narrative effectively.
Building Member Visibility
Gideon also highlighted that many success stories within the association remain untold. He is committed to shining a light on the achievements and contributions of members nationwide. He emphasized that the narrative surrounding NANTA must evolve beyond mere announcements to foster a long-term, positive perception of the association.
Experience in the Travel Industry
Alongside his campaign promises, Gideon cited his extensive contributions to both the travel and aviation industries as a key factor in his candidacy. Through Aeroport Aeronautical University, he has trained thousands of professionals who now work in travel agencies and airlines both domestically and internationally. His initiatives include masterclasses and mentorship programs designed to transform travel agents into “travelpreneurs.”
Global Representation and Effective Communication
Gideon also articulated his role in representing NANTA at the 2022 World Travel Market (WTM) in London. He led the association’s public relations efforts, which significantly improved the visibility of NANTA’s presence at the event. He emphasized the importance of effectively showcasing the industry to garner global attention.
Commitment to Innovative Communications
During his tenure as the Public Relations Officer for NANTA Lagos Zone, Gideon initiated various audiovisual publications and national webinars, particularly during the pandemic. He has cultivated a strong digital platform and actively engages across multiple social media channels, including Instagram and TikTok. He describes himself as not only “tech-aware” but also deeply connected to the next generation, understanding that modern advertising demands both traditional and digital fluency.
Gideon is focused on vision, structure, and measurable impact, maintaining that his campaign is about building a communication system that truly reflects the interests of all members. He concluded with a commitment to amplifying the association’s voice and fostering excellence within its network, calling for member support as he moves forward in the election process.
