Nigerian Air Force Intensifies Operations Against Terrorism in Northeast
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is significantly escalating its air interdiction operations in the Northeast, focusing on targeting terrorist hideouts and logistics networks. This renewed offensive aims to degrade the operational capabilities of terrorist groups while ensuring the safety of local communities.
This coordinated air and ground assault has been launched in the wake of a recent unsuccessful attack on a military base in Benishek. The Hadin Kai operations headquarters confirmed that four personnel tragically lost their lives during this attack, which occurred in Borno State.
This incident is indicative of a broader trend where militants from Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province have been executing numerous coordinated assaults on military positions in the northeastern region over recent weeks and months. For instance, on May 19, 2026, forces involved in Operation Hadin Kai successfully defended against a drone-assisted attack on a military post in Malam Fatli, resulting in the deaths of over 80 militants.
Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the media and information officer for the task force, reported that the troops have been effective in countering these extremist threats. “We continue to give the fundamentalists a bloody nose,” he stated, emphasizing the effectiveness of their responses.
Meanwhile, Air Chief Marshal Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Affairs and Intelligence for the Nigerian Air Force, remarked that the ongoing air campaign focuses on disrupting terrorist movements, destroying key assets, and providing direct air support to ground forces engaged in clearing operations. He highlighted the goal of increasing surveillance and precision strikes to hinder the ability of rebel groups to regroup and launch new attacks.
Ejodame asserted that the effectiveness of these intelligence-led joint force operations has increasingly denied terrorists the freedom to operate, thereby preventing assaults on both military and civilian targets. By maintaining pressure through follow-up operations, the Air Force aims to secure lives, protect property, and stabilize vulnerable areas throughout Borno State and the larger Northeast.
He concluded by underscoring the unwavering determination of the Nigerian Air Force to uphold comprehensive surveillance, precision strikes, and rapid response actions in support of the nation’s counter-terrorism efforts, reassuring citizens of the Armed Forces’ commitment to restoring lasting peace and security.
