NDCCITMA Aims for $5 Billion Investment Commitment Over Five Years
The Niger Delta Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Trade, Mines and Agriculture (NDCCITMA) has announced its ambitious goal of facilitating investment commitments totaling up to $5 billion in the next five years. This initiative underscores a renewed focus on enhancing the region’s economic landscape.
Strategic Summit Set for May
Mr. Idea Gogo Organ, Chairman of NDCCITMA, shared these insights during a press conference in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, ahead of the upcoming Niger Delta Economic and Investment Summit (NDEI Summit) slated for May 2023. He emphasized that the summit is more than just a gathering; it is a dedicated platform aimed at mobilizing investments, promoting enterprise growth, and fostering industrial expansion in the region.
Noteworthy Speakers to Highlight the Event
Highlighting the significance of the summit, Gogo Organ announced that President Bola Tinubu would attend as a special guest, while the Prime Minister of Barbados will serve as the keynote speaker. This lineup promises to infuse the event with a global perspective on economic transformation and strategic development.
Manufacturers Facing Challenges
Reflecting on the manufacturing landscape, it’s important to note that the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) reported that in 2023, 767 manufacturers ceased operations, with an additional 335 facing crisis. This context underscores the urgency for transformative initiatives within the region.
A Vision for Economic Transformation
To position the Niger Delta as a hub of both national and international industry, Gogo Organ called for a transition “from discussion to implementation, from potential to productivity.” He emphasized the need for the region to evolve from being primarily associated with resource extraction to being recognized for value creation, innovation, and shared prosperity.
Collaborative Efforts Essential for Success
During the recent Niger Delta Business Roundtable, which convened policy leaders, investors, entrepreneurs, and strategic stakeholders from across nine Niger Delta states, discussions centered on moving from ambition to actionable steps. Gogo Organ urged for enhanced organization and private sector participation to develop financeable opportunities and produce tangible benefits for the community. He reiterated that the summit represents a collective response to these challenges.
Appeal for Governor Support and Regional Cooperation
In a call to action, Gogo Organ appealed to the governors of the Niger Delta to embrace the summit as a collaborative regional economic platform rather than a project limited to a single agency. He invited the governors to work together with NDCCITMA to present priority opportunities, support necessary reforms, and advocate for the region’s strengths to potential investors.
Expectations for Economic and Social Benefits
Dr. Solomon Edebiri, Chairman of the Local Summit Organizing Committee and Secretary-General of the NDCCITMA Board of Directors, emphasized the chamber’s vital role in attracting investments and supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through targeted development programs. He noted that the summit is anticipated to yield significant economic, social, and institutional benefits by acting as a catalyst for investment, innovation, and sustainable development in the Niger Delta.
Edebiri expressed optimism, stating, “We are set to host a world-class economic and investment summit that will serve as a gateway to investment, a platform for innovation, and a catalyst for industrial growth in the Niger Delta.”
