Support for President Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election Grows Among Lagos Leaders
Mudasir Obasa, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, and former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode have urged Nigerians to back President Bola Tinubu in his re-election campaign for 2027. They assert that the president’s ongoing reforms and economic initiatives are crucial for the nation’s progress.
This call to action came during an interfaith prayer meeting organized by the Mandate Movement in Ikeja, Lagos, held to commemorate President Tinubu’s 74th birthday. A statement detailing the meeting was later shared with Punch Online.
In his address, Obasa emphasized the importance of extending the Tinubu administration’s tenure beyond 2027 to solidify the achievements of the New Hopes agenda. He asserted that the president’s accomplishments provide a strong foundation for a second term.
Obasa clarified that the prayer meeting served not only to seek divine support for the president’s leadership beyond 2027 but also to promote peace, unity, stability, security, and overall development within Nigeria. He highlighted Tinubu’s visionary leadership, noting how his policies and reforms have significantly transformed the country’s socio-economic landscape.
The Speaker praised initiatives such as the removal of the fuel subsidy, which he noted has enhanced state revenues, and the Nigeria Education Loan Fund, which has broadened access to higher education. He also pointed to the ambitious Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project as a key infrastructure endeavor that holds potential for economic growth and tourism enhancement.
Obasa commended First Lady Oluremi Tinubu’s Renewal Hope Initiative, highlighting its positive impact through food distribution, agricultural support for women, and programs aimed at economic empowerment and digital learning. He reiterated the call for Nigerians to support President Tinubu and all All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in the upcoming elections.
Akinwunmi Ambode echoed these sentiments, praising Tinubu’s leadership and urging the public to unite behind the president’s re-election. He mentioned, “President Tinubu’s commitment to Nigeria’s progress is commendable, and it is our collective duty to support him so that the nation can fully benefit from his reforms.” Ambode expressed confidence in the country’s continued prosperity under Tinubu’s administration.
Also contributing to the discussion, Tayo Ayinde, Chief of Staff to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, extolled Tinubu’s efforts in economic repositioning, calling for widespread support for his presidency beyond 2027. Other notable remarks came from Stephen Ogundipe and Lanre Ogunyemi, chairmen of the House Committees on Information and Strategy and on Planning, respectively. They urged Nigerians to celebrate Tinubu’s accomplishments and prayed for his continued health and well-being.
The gathering included prominent political figures, stakeholders, party members, and community leaders from across Lagos State, as well as clerics from both Muslim and Christian backgrounds, all united in support of the All Progressives Congress.
