Omoluabi Movement Rebrands as Yai Progressive Movement Ahead of 2027 Elections
The well-known political organization in Ogun State, previously called the Omoluabi Movement, has officially transitioned to the Yai Progressive Movement (YPM) in anticipation of the 2027 general elections. This announcement was made by Tope Akintonde, the movement’s chairman, during a press briefing held in Abeokuta on Thursday, facilitated by the national media director, Olusun Joshua.
New Identity Reflects Evolving Political Goals
The statement from the YPM outlined that the rebranding is indicative of the group’s evolving political ideology. Akintunde emphasized that the movement marks a shift following the successful execution of its previous political agenda, which has laid the groundwork for this new phase.
Focus on APC Candidates in Ogun State
Members of the newly branded movement have committed themselves to garnering support for all candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State. This includes backing Mr. Solomon Adeola Yayi’s campaign for the governorship in the 2027 elections, highlighting a unified effort across various political levels from the presidential race to state assembly elections.
A Broad Coalition for Progress
Akintunde described the Yai Progressive Movement as a grassroots coalition comprising artisans, professionals, youth organizations, and politically aware stakeholders. The group proudly includes over 30,000 members and 17 other dedicated organizations, all united in fostering continuous growth and development in Ogun State.
Transitioning Political Platforms
In announcing the rebranding, Akintunde explained that the YPM’s evolution signifies a move away from the Dapo Abiodun Continuity Agenda (DACA), which initially aimed to facilitate the re-election of the current Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun. He noted that prior to the 2023 elections, DACA successfully mobilized grassroots support that celebrated the administration’s achievements and commitment to its campaign promises.
Promoting Inclusivity and Civic Engagement
The Yai Progressive Movement aims to enhance grassroots involvement while advancing progressive values rooted in inclusivity, civic duty, and accountable leadership. Akintunde reiterated that the movement seeks to establish a political structure that empowers citizens, fosters integrity, and redefines leadership standards in the region.
Commitment to Ideology and Reform
Emphasizing the importance of ideological clarity and reform-minded leadership, Akintunde underscored that the movement is dedicated to addressing economic growth, industrial development, and educational improvement while strengthening citizen engagement. The YPM’s philosophy aims to create a lasting impact that transcends electoral cycles and promotes sustainable political development.
