Pepsodent, the leading brand in the global toothpaste market, has officially kicked off its campaign for the 2026 World Oral Health Day (WOHD) with the theme ‘Do The 2’. This initiative aims to enhance oral hygiene practices among Nigerians.
Collaboration with the Nigerian Dental Association
The “Do The 2” campaign was unveiled at a recent press conference held at Unilever’s headquarters in Lagos, in partnership with the Nigerian Dental Association (NDA). This campaign is set to run from March 16 until March 21, 2026, and encompasses various activities such as school outreach, public engagement in bustling areas, and dental health camps.
Extensive Reach Across Nigeria
Targeted at 17 key states, including Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, and Enugu, the campaign aims to connect with 50 million Nigerians. By focusing on educational programs and community involvement, Pepsodent strives to create lasting oral health habits in both children and adults.
Commitment to Oral Health Education
Pepsodent’s brand manager, Lauretta Amie, emphasized the importance of instilling good oral health practices through awareness and educational initiatives in schools. “The ‘Do The 2’ campaign encourages Nigerians to brush their teeth twice a day and to schedule regular dental check-ups. Our collaboration with NDA aims to reach 500,000 individuals, raising awareness about the prevention, detection, and treatment of oral health issues,” Amie noted.
Public-Private Partnership Highlights
Dr. Gloria Uzoigwe, Head of the Dental Division at the Federal Ministry of Health, highlighted the effectiveness of public-private partnerships in promoting national health goals. She mentioned the support provided to thousands of schoolchildren through the School Oral Health Program, underlining the essential role of private sector involvement in public health advancements.
Importance of Oral Health for Overall Well-Being
NDA Chairman Dr. Emedum Elias articulated that the 2026 World Oral Health Day celebration emphasizes the critical role of oral health in overall wellness. He stated, “Oral health is not only about having clean teeth and gums; it affects various aspects of life, including eating, speaking, and social interactions.” He urged governments and stakeholders to prioritize oral healthcare as an integral aspect of overall health strategy.
Commitment to Community Health Initiatives
Abayomi Ali, Unilever Nigeria’s Head of Supply Chain, reiterated the company’s dedication to making a meaningful impact beyond just providing products. By utilizing partnerships, technology, and community outreach, Unilever aims to ensure that all Nigerians have access to the knowledge and resources necessary to combat oral diseases. Ali emphasized that maintaining good dental hygiene can also prevent serious systemic health issues, including diabetes and heart disease. “World Oral Health Day is a pivotal moment for us to rededicate our efforts to improve oral health awareness and access to care throughout Nigeria,” he added.
