The Plateau State Police Command last weekend launched a massive awareness campaign aimed at curbing crime and social vices across communities in the state.
The initiative, which started in Genta Makeri community in Jos North Local Government Area, is part of efforts to strengthen public confidence and improve community safety.
The campaign was strongly supported by the Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command, Mr. Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina, who stressed the importance of proactive policing and community participation in tackling insecurity.

Command staff conveyed the message directly to residents through face-to-face engagement.
During the exercise, police officers distributed flyers and pamphlets and encouraged community members to engage in meaningful dialogue about crime prevention and moral responsibility.
Awareness campaigns focused on deterring criminal activities and other social vices that threaten peace and development.
The campaign was based on the Police Campaign Against Crime and Other Vices (POCACOV), an initiative of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Kayode Egbetokun.
The program aims to eradicate crime and harmful behavior across the country, especially among young people.
Mr. Adesina appealed to residents of the Genta community to actively support the police and other law enforcement agencies in their collective fight against crime.
He stressed that crime can only be effectively combated through strong partnerships between security agencies and communities.
The CP further called on parents and guardians to embrace the IGP’s ‘Catch Them Young’ policy, which aims to actively shape children and young people’s attitudes towards crime and social vices. He pointed out that early moral guidance remains the key to long-term social stability.
The Commissioner also encouraged the public to break the culture of silence by reporting suspicious activity in their neighborhoods. According to him, apathy and fear only give room for crime and social vices to flourish within the community.
He reassured residents of the command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Plateau State. He said police will continue to employ both preventive and intelligence-driven strategies to maintain peace and order.
The Plateau State Police Command further called on all well-meaning citizens to join the fight against crime by remaining vigilant and cooperating.
