Tony Bellew Believes Anthony Joshua Can Defeat Tyson Fury
Former world champion Tony Bellew asserts that Anthony Joshua still has the potential to defeat Tyson Fury. Fury has expressed interest in facing Joshua following his upcoming fight next month, according to Sky Sports.
Bellew, who has experience both as a cruiserweight and heavyweight champion, is optimistic that the long-anticipated fight between Fury and Joshua will finally come to fruition. He remarked on Sky Sports News, emphasizing the necessity of this match for the sport.
Bellew stated, “It has to happen. It would be a travesty if it didn’t happen.” He highlighted Joshua’s accomplishments, describing him as the most marketable fighter the UK has ever produced, having been both an Olympic gold medalist and a unified heavyweight champion.
Regarding Tyson Fury, Bellew noted that he is performing at his best. “Everything seems to be coming together,” he explained, adding that the boxing community eagerly anticipates their return to the ring. Bellew believes that the presence of both athletes is beneficial for British boxing.
Despite this optimism, Bellew acknowledged that both boxers may be past their prime. “In my opinion, they’re both beyond their best at this point,” he explained. He compared their potential matchup to past boxing legends, mentioning that even in their prime, fighters like Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather faced each other at different career stages.
Joshua is aiming for a return to the ring in July, following a car accident in December that resulted in the tragic loss of two friends. Meanwhile, Bellew spoke about Fury’s current training alongside Oleksandr Usyk, remarking on Fury’s commitment to preparing and his impressive physical condition.
Bellew believes this upcoming fight could reflect the different stages of their careers but still holds hope that Joshua’s style may give him an edge over Fury. “Style makes fights,” he concluded, underscoring that it truly could be a 50-50 matchup. With both fighters having faced their share of challenges, fans eagerly await the outcome of this highly anticipated clash.
