Willie Peters to Conclude Tenure as Hull KR Head Coach
Willie Peters will step down as head coach of Hull KR at the end of the Super League season, marking the end of a transformative era for the club.
The 47-year-old leaves Craven Park in 2023 after leading Hull KR through an unprecedented period of success, culminating in a historic achievement that few anticipated upon his appointment as head coach.
Peters ended the club’s 40-year trophy drought by clinching the 2025 Challenge Cup. Under his guidance, Hull KR also secured the League Leaders’ Shield and the Super League Grand Final, finishing the season as Triple Crown winners.
The team’s triumph in February over the Brisbane Broncos—resulting in a 30-24 victory—further solidified their position at the pinnacle of rugby league by winning their first World Club Challenge.
In his statement, Peters expressed his intention to pursue coaching opportunities in the NRL once his time at Hull KR concludes. He acknowledged his aspirations for the next step in his career but emphasized that the decision to leave was not an easy one.
Peters expressed deep gratitude toward the board, players, and staff at Sewell Group Craven Park, noting the invaluable support he has received over the past four years. He also thanked the club’s passionate fans who have welcomed him and his family, stating that Hull KR and the East Hull community will always hold a special place in their hearts.
Hull KR’s management recognized Peters’ significant contributions during his tenure, emphasizing that the current focus remains on the upcoming challenges in the 2026 season. Owner Neil Hudgell praised Peters for leading the club to unprecedented success and affirmed that his legacy will be honored at the appropriate moment.
As the club prepares for its next chapter, Peters remains dedicated to fostering a culture of excellence and success in his final weeks as head coach. He aims to leave a lasting impact as he transitions to new opportunities in his career.
