Galaxy Backbone Limited has announced that it will celebrate its 20th anniversary in June 2026, building on 20 years of driving digital transformation across Nigeria’s public sector as the federal government’s ICT infrastructure and shared services provider.
This milestone highlights the organization’s evolution since its founding in 2006, when it was founded to connect government agencies and provide an integrated technology backbone for public service operations. Over the years, Galaxy Backbone says it has grown into a national digital platform that supports efficiency, transparency, collaboration and innovation across ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).
According to federal government ICT companies, Nigeria’s efforts over the past two decades have been central to the transition from fragmented paper-based government processes to integrated technology-enabled systems. Galaxy Backbone says that by providing secure connectivity, enterprise-grade data centers, cloud platforms, and digital collaboration tools, MDA can now digitize its operations, share data more effectively, and deliver services more efficiently.

Galaxy Backbone believes this scale is largely due to sustained investment in the national digital infrastructure that the federal government manages on its behalf. This includes high-capacity, world-class data centers, multi-state fiber optic connectivity, secure hosting services, and a shared digital platform designed to improve responsiveness and operational efficiency across government.
Galaxy Backbone “strengthens service delivery to the public”
The technology company says the digital infrastructure it currently operates supports thousands of government users, hundreds of public agencies, and several mission-critical national platforms used every day across the country. The company said this has strengthened government-to-government coordination, improved government-business collaboration, and enhanced service delivery to the public.

“These investments are fundamental to Nigeria’s progress towards a more digital, agile and citizen-centric public service,” Galaxy Backbone says.
The company’s role in the digital transformation of the public sector has also garnered national and international recognition. In 2025, Galaxy Backbone was ranked No. 1 overall in the Federal Government Website Performance Scorecard, which reflects performance in digital service delivery and platform reliability. Internationally, he was also awarded the United Nations Public Service Award for driving a whole-of-government approach to digital transformation.
As part of its 20th anniversary program in June 2026, Galaxy Backbone says it will convene stakeholders from across the public and private sectors to reflect on its transformation journey, assess the partnerships that have shaped its impact and outline priorities for the next stage of Nigeria’s digital government agenda. The event is also expected to highlight cooperation between government agencies, industry partners, technology providers and civil servants in building national digital capacity.
Looking ahead, Galaxy Backbone said it remains focused on deploying digital infrastructure across the country, strengthening cybersecurity, enhancing service delivery and supporting the Federal Government’s drive to make Nigeria smarter and more efficient.
