The DIGNIDAD Act, which translates from Spanish to mean “dignity,” stands for “Defending the Country and Retaining the Dignity of Immigrants to Achieve and Realize the American Dream Act.” This proposed law aims to provide legal status to as many as 10.5 million undocumented immigrants and expand visa eligibility for newcomers, raising eyebrows among conservative circles.
Contradictions in the Act’s Intentions
Under this bill, support for illegal immigration is evident, leading some to question its alignment with traditional Republican values. The Dignidad Act appears to undermine former President Donald Trump’s tough stance on immigration, introducing what some perceive as a bare amnesty while proclaiming commitments to enhance border and immigration enforcement.
