Amaechi Stresses Commitment to Transparent Election Results
Chibuike Amaechi has assured his supporters that he will accept the outcome of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary if the process is conducted transparently. The former Transport Minister emphasized the importance of integrity in the electoral process while participating in the primaries in his home constituency of Ubima, Rivers State.
ADC Candidates Compete for Presidential Nomination
In a significant development for the ADC, Atiku Abubakar, Chibuike Amaechi, and Mohammed Hayatudeen officially launched their campaigns for the party’s presidential ticket. Preliminary results emerging from various regions indicate that Abubakar is leading in his home state of Adamawa, securing 68,824 votes in Sokoto, a stark contrast to the totals of his competitors.
Primary Results Show Regional Strength
The ADC primary election spanned over 8,800 wards across Nigeria. According to results from Yobe State, Abubakar received 740 votes, while Amaechi and Hayatudeen trailed significantly with 15 and 2 votes, respectively. Abubakar, who also cast his vote in Jimeta, expressed satisfaction with the integrity of the voting process, suggesting it could serve as a springboard for national recovery.
Digital Monitoring Enhances Election Transparency
The ADC utilized large digital electronic beacons for result collation, monitored by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials to ensure credibility. The party’s spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, highlighted that this system is part of the ADC’s commitment to a transparent electoral process, particularly in contrast to the alleged malpractices of other political entities in Nigeria.
Amaechi’s Vision for Nigeria
In a recent interview, Amaechi spoke about his motivations for pursuing the presidency. He identified pressing security and economic challenges as key issues that require immediate attention. Reflecting on his tenure as Governor of Rivers State, he recounted efforts to enhance infrastructure and public safety, arguing that strong leadership is essential to reversing Nigeria’s current fortunes.
ADC Criticizes Tinubu’s Remarks on Opposition Parties
The ADC has denounced comments made by President Bola Tinubu, who labeled opposition parties as selfish during his acceptance speech as the ruling APC’s presidential candidate. The party described these remarks as ironic, considering the current government’s struggles with economic instability and widespread insecurity in Nigeria.
Concerns Over Election Integrity
In a statement from Abdullahi, the ADC expressed alarm over the reported figures from the APC primary, which claimed that Tinubu garnered nearly 11 million votes. The party cautioned that such inflated numbers could pave the way for electoral manipulation in the upcoming general elections. Abdullahi emphasized that a government failing to address basic needs, such as food security and economic development, should not dismiss the contributions of the opposition.
