Bamidele Salam Secures Accord Party Nomination for Ede Federal Constituency
In a significant primary election held on Friday in Ede, Osun State, Bamidele Salam, the Chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts, has secured the Accord Party nomination for the Ede North-Ede South-Egbedor-Ejigbo Federal Constituency in the upcoming 2027 general election.
Political Transition for Salam
Salam, who was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2019 and re-elected in 2023 on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), recently switched allegiance to the Accord Party along with six fellow federal legislators. This shift follows a leadership crisis that led to the dissolution of the PDP by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Commitment to Development and Security
During the primaries, Salam received overwhelming support and also played a vital role in overseeing the exercise, which was guided by Accord National Publicity Secretary Joseph Omorogbe and attended by representatives from the four local government areas within the constituency. He pledged to prioritize development projects that will benefit the communities within his jurisdiction, underlining his commitment to enhancing the socio-economic landscape of the region.
Gratitude Towards Supporters and Leadership
Salam expressed heartfelt appreciation to Governor Ademola Adeleke for his endorsement and highlighted the strong confidence he has received from the electorate. “It is truly humbling to have such tremendous support from the people of Ede North/Ede South/Egbedore/Ejigbo Federal Constituency,” he stated. He emphasized that his second term presents an opportunity for deeper commitment and increased focus on community needs.
Future Aspirations and Challenges
Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Salam indicated that he views his nomination as a call to service. “This opportunity challenges me to do even more. With God’s assistance, we will achieve significant advancements for our constituency,” he remarked. He reiterated the importance of continued legislative efforts to bolster infrastructure and services in the region.
Addressing Security Concerns
Salam also underscored the necessity for collaborative legislative action to address Nigeria’s pressing security issues. He noted that many citizens no longer feel safe while traveling or even remaining at home. “Our paramount challenge in Nigeria is security. We cannot live in denial any longer,” he stated, advocating for a more effective security architecture that prioritizes the safety of life and property.
Collaboration for a Prosperous Nigeria
Salam firmly believes that addressing security concerns requires creativity and proactivity from leadership, not just in creating laws, but in ensuring an operational security framework. “Only with improved security can we begin to focus on broader developmental goals,” he declared. He is determined to work with fellow lawmakers to foster a functional security system, ultimately aimed at making Nigeria a more prosperous nation.
