APC Stakeholders Urge Party Leadership to Uphold Primary Results
Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, organized by the Abia South APC Vanguard, are urging the party’s leadership to resist any attempts to undermine the recent Senate primary outcomes. This appeal follows the party’s internal elections aimed at solidifying its position ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to various stakeholders, the APC must nominate a candidate who resonates widely with voters in the Abia South Senatorial Zone to have a viable chance of defeating the incumbent Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe. They believe that a robust candidate like Hon. Johnson Junior Erondu has the potential to unseat Abaribe in the upcoming elections.
During a press briefing in Abuja, the convenor of the group, Sir Don Ubani, expressed support for Erondu Jr., who claimed victory in the primary elections held across 65 constituencies in six local government areas of the Abia South Senatorial District. “Erondu emerged as the clear winner on May 18, 2026,” he stated.
Ubani further asserted that Prince Paul Ikone, a competing aspirant, was notably absent on the day of the primaries, raising questions about his commitment. He emphasized that over 75% of APC members in the Abia South Senatorial District came together to support Erondu, underscoring the candidate’s broad acceptance.
Describing Erondu’s landslide victory, Ubani noted that he was followed closely by Dr. Nyerere Anim Nyerere in the race. As a significant APC leader in the Ukwa West Local Government Area, Ubani accused Ikone of attempting to illegitimately claim the senatorial seat and urged party leadership not to yield to such pressures.
He reiterated that a strong candidate like Erondu Junior is essential for the party’s success against Abaribe. “If the APC endorses Ikone, whether by oversight or design, it risks facing a damaging defeat,” he warned. Ubani acknowledged that some influential individuals might seek to support Ikone but cautioned that this could jeopardize the party’s unity.
Ubani expressed admiration for Deputy Chairman Prime Minister Benjamin Okezie Kaluu for his considerable contributions to the APC’s prominence in Abia State. He strongly urged party leaders to prioritize the community’s aspirations over personal ambitions, emphasizing that Erondu is the candidate who genuinely represents the desires of the people in Southern Abia.
Highlighting Erondu’s qualifications, Ubani described him as a compassionate leader with a notable record of philanthropy. “His dedication to the community has earned him the nickname ‘Empowerment Master.’ His efforts in donating resources like buses and motorcycles have significantly strengthened the party’s efforts during the primaries,” he concluded.
