Nelly Korda Claims Victory at the US Women’s Open
Nelly Korda, the world’s top-ranked golfer, achieved a thrilling victory at the US Women’s Open, while Charlie Hull remains in pursuit of her first major title despite an impressive comeback this weekend in California.
Korda showcased her status as the pre-tournament favorite, securing a one-shot win at the prestigious Riviera Country Club. She shot a final round of 2-under 69, bringing her total to 8-under par and fending off a competitive leaderboard filled with talent.
In a pivotal moment, Korda made a crucial birdie on the par-5 17th hole and subsequently two-putted for par on the 18th. This victory marks her as the first woman to capture two majors this season since Inbee Park, affirming her dominance in the sport.
Charlie Hull, who had soared into contention with a remarkable third-round 65, completed her day with a 4-under 67. This impressive effort tied the record for the lowest 36-hole aggregate in US Women’s Open history, featuring one eagle, five birdies, and three bogeys throughout her final day.
Unfortunately, Hull’s near-win continues her frustrating streak of five runner-up finishes in major tournaments. Meanwhile, In Ji-chun fell to fourth, one stroke behind Korda’s playing partner, Kim Se-young.
Excitement Builds and Delivers at the Riviera
Hull began the final round on a high note, sinking a 12-foot eagle putt on the first par-5 hole before adding a birdie on the third to briefly share the lead. However, Korda and Kim quickly regained their overnight advantage with birdies of their own.
The tension mounted when Hull almost scored a hole-in-one on the par-3 sixth hole, while both Korda and Kim kept the pressure on with birdies at the same hole, all moving to 8-under par. Chun’s chip-in birdie on No. 7 set the stage for a dramatic conclusion as both Korda and Kim bogeyed.
As the front nine concluded, Hull briefly took the lead with consecutive birdies but lost momentum after a missed par save on the 12th. With five players in close competition heading into the last stretch, Hull birdied the par-5 17th, while Korda extended her lead with an 8-foot birdie, demonstrating her control of the tournament.
Korda sealed her victory with two solid putts on the final par-4 18th green, completing her impressive performance and marking her fourth win this year. The finish solidifies her stature as a leading figure in women’s golf.
