There, Kim Jong Un hosted an elaborate welcome ceremony, featuring a 21-gun salute, a military band, and children waving flags and balloons, as showcased in an official video released by Xinhua news agency.

This visit symbolizes a notable shift in dynamics; John Delury, a visiting scholar at Ewha Womans University in Seoul, mentioned that the key factor lies in whether Kim can engage Xi Jinping from a point of strength. Otherwise, North Korea may hesitate to strengthen ties when it appears weak.
Commemorating 65 Years of the Mutual Defense Treaty
This visit coincided with the 65th anniversary of the Mutual Defense Treaty between the two nations, a significant agreement forged in 1961 and the only formal treaty ever ratified by the Chinese government. This event builds on Kim’s recent visit to Beijing in September, reinforcing their diplomatic ties.
