Political Landscape Shifts as Hong Jeong Progresses Toward Elections
Political activity is intensifying as the next election cycle approaches. On Friday, Padi Iyamu, former Edo State Education Commissioner, officially announced his candidacy for the Oredo Federal House of Representatives seat with the All Progressives Congress (APC). This declaration underscores his longstanding dedication to the party’s growth and success.
Support from Party Leaders and Constituents
Iyamu made his announcement at the APC Secretariat in Oredo Local Government Area, where he was greeted by party leaders and a sizable crowd of supporters. This show of solidarity highlighted the strong connections he maintains within the party’s framework.
Defending Grassroots Relevance
During his address, Iyamu responded to skepticism regarding his grassroots presence, asserting that his unwavering support for the APC since 2016 speaks volumes. He emphasized that his political journey has been marked by substantial investments of time and resources aimed at securing electoral victories for APC candidates throughout Edo State.
Commitment to Party Mobilization
With a steadfast commitment to the APC, Iyamu urged party members to recognize his contributions. He recounted his active participation in previous election cycles, particularly in mobilizing support for party candidates, including notable figures like Senator Monday Okpebolo. His collaborative efforts with youth leaders and community stakeholders have been pivotal in generating electoral support across Oredo.
Grassroots Campaigning and Empowerment Initiatives
Reflecting on the campaigns for the 2020 and 2024 elections, Iyamu noted the extensive outreach he conducted in Oredo, including financial support to youth leaders to bolster grassroots mobilization. His initiatives have not only enhanced the party’s election outcomes but have also significantly empowered women and youth, fostering stronger ties to the party.
Addressing Criticism and Emphasizing Loyalty
In light of recent criticisms, Iyamu asserted that claims of his rejection at the ward level are unfounded and politically motivated. He firmly stated that his longstanding loyalty and contributions to the APC are irrefutable. His attempts to campaign should not be misinterpreted, he added.
Unity and Support from Party Leadership
Dr. Osamudiamen Osarenko, the APC Chairman of Oredo Local Government Area, called for unity among party members as elections draw near. He commended Iyamu for his loyalty and respect for the party leadership and urged members to foster collaboration, aiming to strengthen the APC in the lead-up to the elections. The gathering also saw the presence of notable figures, including former Edo State House of Assembly Speaker Ambassador Uyi Igbe and former House of Representatives member Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon, among others.
