Oyo State PDP Candidate Outlines Vision for 2027 Governance
Adeji Olajide, the leading candidate of the Oyo State Peoples Democratic Party, has expressed that his ambition to become governor in 2027 is driven by a genuine desire to serve the community. Speaking at his residence in Ibadan during a meeting with a group of journalists, including Hakeem Abbas, president of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Olajide emphasized the importance of public service.
Currently serving as the Chairman of the House Committee on Digital, Information and Communication Technology and Cybersecurity, Olajide articulated that the governorship should be viewed not as a privilege but as a responsibility that must be earned through dedication and competence. His commitment to Oyo State and consistent political record position him as a credible contender for the role.
Olajide asserted his unwavering loyalty to the PDP, stating, “I have remained stable and loyal to Oyo State. I have never left the party for any reason and have always prioritized service over personal gain.” He believes that his background in computer science enhances his capacity to foster innovation and modern governance solutions within the state.
The candidate highlighted the necessity of continuing the development roadmap initiated by the current administration under Governor Seyi Makinde. He underscored that maintaining these initiatives is vital for the well-being of residents and crucial for ongoing growth and stability.
Focusing on security, Olajide underscored his intention to strengthen the national security framework, making it a foundational priority of his administration. He advocates for advancing state policing efforts to foster a more cohesive and effective response to security challenges faced by the region. Furthermore, he plans to bolster the efforts of the Western Nigeria Security Network, known as Amotekun, enhancing its operational capabilities.
In the education sector, Olajide is committed to adhering to globally accepted standards, including those set by UNESCO, to ensure quality learning opportunities throughout the state. He identifies education as a pivotal driver of development and emphasizes its need for prioritization in governance.
On the economic front, Mr. Olajide envisions creating investment opportunities centered on agribusiness, while reinforcing current initiatives within the sector. He has proposed the establishment of multiple free trade zones in Oyo State, aimed at attracting investors and boosting internal revenue. He also emphasizes the importance of supporting small and medium-sized enterprises to foster job creation and improve livelihoods, alongside plans to digitize the state’s economy. His ultimate goal is to position Ibadan as a major digital hub in the South-West region.
Representing the Ibadan North West and Ibadan South West federal constituencies, Olajide claims that his extensive experience in the National Assembly has equipped him for elevated responsibilities. As chairman of the House ICT and Cybersecurity Committee, he has facilitated the establishment of community ICT centers across the state, reflecting his commitment to enhance digital access and services.
