Call for Civic Responsibility as Nigeria Prepares for 2027 Elections
In a recent statement, President Bola Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing national security and ensuring a safer Nigeria as the country approaches the 2027 elections. Addressing citizens both in Nigeria and abroad during his Easter message, the President acknowledged that challenges remain despite the ongoing efforts of security agencies to combat terrorism and banditry.
“While we are grateful for the sacrifices made by our military and law enforcement, we recognize that threats to our national security still persist,” he emphasized. To combat these challenges, Tinubu pledged to bolster resources and foster international partnerships that would empower security forces to more effectively confront criminal groups.
Following a recent condolence trip to Jos in Plateau State, President Tinubu expressed his sympathies to the victims of recent violent attacks, highlighting assurances from security leaders regarding progress made. He noted the mobilization of international support to strengthen Nigeria’s overall security response.
“During my visit to Jos, I aimed to stand with the people of Plateau State in their grief and reassure them that positive change is on the horizon,” Tinubu remarked. He encouraged citizens in regions facing insecurity to support lawful government efforts, emphasizing unity as a crucial component of national stability and peace.
Emphasizing the importance of shared national prosperity, the President noted that a climate of fear hinders meaningful progress. He stated that the Easter season serves as a powerful reminder of sacrifice and resilience amid current economic strains and security challenges. “Easter inspires us to maintain hope and resolve as we navigate these difficulties,” he added.
In light of the upcoming elections, Tinubu called for political responsibility and maturity from all parties involved. He urged political actors to adhere to electoral laws that promote democracy and safeguard national stability. “As we approach the next election cycle, this is an opportunity for civic duty, where our decisions must be grounded in peace and a shared commitment to our nation’s future,” he said.
Expressing optimism about Nigeria’s path forward, Tinubu pointed to improving economic indicators as evidence that his administration is making the right choices. He encouraged citizens to remain hopeful and engaged in the democratic process as the nation seeks to emerge stronger and more prosperous. “I urge all Nigerians to keep the faith and contribute to the progress we aspire to achieve collectively,” he concluded.
In her Easter message, First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu also highlighted the importance of compassion in society. She reminded citizens to extend support to those in need, stating, “Easter is a time to reflect on the power of love and sacrifice. As we celebrate, let us not forget the vulnerable and work towards building a more peaceful and prosperous nation for everyone.”
