Nigerian Air Force Intensifies Operations Against Terrorism in Borno State
The Nigerian Air Force has executed additional airstrikes targeting suspected terrorist locations in the Jiri axis of Borno State, as part of its ongoing counter-terrorism efforts in the northeast region of the country.
Tragic reports indicate that at least 30 individuals are feared dead following a military airstrike that struck a weekly market in Jiri village, situated near the border of Borno and Yobe states, on Saturday evening. According to Punch Online, the explosion sent shockwaves through the bustling marketplace, instigating widespread panic among traders and local residents.
This particular assault, which took place on April 11, 2026, was executed by the aviation division of Operation Hadin Kai, in concert with the Nigerian military. This operation follows a series of earlier missions that successfully targeted and dismantled terrorist camps in the area.
The recent airstrike mission focused on intercepting fleeing militants and disrupting their regrouping efforts, taking advantage of the challenging terrain following the initial attacks. Air Chief Marshal Ehimen Ejodame, director of public affairs and intelligence, provided insights into the operation in a statement released on Sunday.
Ejodame emphasized that the military actions were driven by credible intelligence obtained through collaboration with various stakeholders, which was further validated by the appropriate operational commands. He stated, “On April 11, 2026, the air units of Operation Hadin Kai conducted precision strikes against terrorist sites identified within the Jiri axis, as part of a coordinated air-ground engagement with the Nigerian Army. This operation follows a prior engagement that inflicted significant losses on terrorist forces.”
As efforts to track and neutralize terror elements responsible for recent assaults on security personnel intensify, the airstrikes aimed to target remaining operatives and disrupt their reorganization. Ejodame noted that these operations underscore the effectiveness of intelligence-led strategies in curbing terrorist movements and safeguarding both military personnel and civilians.
The Nigerian Air Force spokesperson further highlighted that air-ground operations, combined with ongoing clearance initiatives, are integral to enhancing security, protecting lives and property, and stabilizing vulnerable regions in Borno and across the Northeast. He reiterated the Air Force’s dedication to maintaining sustained surveillance, precision strike capabilities, and rapid response as part of the national counter-terrorism mission.
This recent airstrike is a crucial component of the Nigerian Air Force’s enhanced anti-terrorism operations under Operation Hadin Kai, which seeks to eradicate the residual insurgent threats in the northeast. Borno State continues to be a significant focal point for insurgency, with prevailing attacks on security forces prompting ongoing joint air and ground offensives.
