The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has officially endorsed Senator Solomon Adeola, widely recognized as Yai, as its candidate for the gubernatorial elections in 2027. This announcement was made during a strategic caucus meeting held under the leadership of party chairman Chief Yemi Sanusi at the APC secretariat in Abeokuta.
The meeting saw attendance from key political figures, including Governor Dapo Abiodun and former governors such as Chief Olusegun Osoba, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, and Otunba Gbenga Daniel. Other notable attendees included Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, who represents the Imeko/Yewa North Federal Constituency, and various current and former members of both the state House of Assembly and National Assembly.
During the gathering, Governor Abiodun declared Adeola as the consensus gubernatorial candidate for the party. He urged all other aspirants to unite behind Senator Adeola and prioritize the party’s interests above their individual ambitions.
The announcement was met with enthusiastic chants of “Yai ni jo, ya ni jare” from party members, igniting a wave of jubilation among supporters present at the meeting.
In his acceptance address, Adeola expressed gratitude to party members for the opportunity to serve as the APC’s candidate. He promised to uphold the party’s values and commitment to the betterment of Ogun State. “I believe in the unity and progress of our dear state, particularly Ogun West,” he stated, emphasizing his vision for the region’s development.
Highlighting Ogun’s status as one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing economies, Adeola spoke about the collective efforts required to maintain this momentum. He reassured his party members, “I will not let you down. I pledge to safeguard the peace and progress achieved in Ogun State over the past three years.”
Adeola pledged to unite all factions within the party and to foster collaboration across political lines, stating, “From today, a new Ogun State will be born, as we aim to take our state to unprecedented heights.” His vision includes creating a cohesive entity capable of achieving shared goals, regardless of political affiliations.
In his opening remarks, chairman Yemi Sanusi emphasized the importance of maintaining unity within the party as they head toward the primaries. He noted that the purpose of the strategic caucus was to ensure collaboration among party members to prevent divisiveness in the lead-up to the 2027 elections.
