Senator Emphasizes Commitment to Equity in Delta South District
Senator Joel Onowakpo-Thomas, who serves the Delta South Senatorial District, reaffirmed his dedication to promoting equity among the region’s four ethnic communities. This commitment was highlighted during a consultative visit to the Wali Urhobo All Progressives Congress (APC) family on Tuesday.
Strategic Meeting at Warri Residence
The gathering took place at the residence of Mr. Olorogun Bernard Okumagba, Chairman of the Warri Urhobo APC Leadership Council. The senator addressed a diverse audience, including members of the Leadership Council, the Warri South APC Executive Committee, ward mayors, members of the House of Representatives, state government appointees, and other local leaders.
Legislative Achievements and Developmental Projects
During the meeting, Senator Onowakpo-Thomas shared his achievements over the past two years and ten months in office. He presented an overview of legislative initiatives aimed at boosting federal presence and development in Delta South. He noted that he has sponsored eight bills, several of which have successfully passed through the Senate and the House of Representatives, including the Nigerian Maritime University Okerenkoko (Establishment) Bill, which received presidential assent from President Bola Tinubu in January 2025.
Impact on Education, Health, and Maritime Sectors
The senator explained that these legislative measures aim to establish permanent institutions in education, health, and maritime sectors, generating employment opportunities and enhancing local capacity in critical fields.
Community Empowerment Initiatives
Senator Onowakpo-Thomas also highlighted his efforts to empower voters within the community. He stated that over 2,000 individuals have benefited from various targeted programs, which include the distribution of essential items such as motorcycles, freezers, sewing machines, and agricultural inputs. Additionally, he has organized large-scale training sessions focusing on areas such as conflict resolution, peacebuilding, and solar power installation.

Reiterating his commitment to fairness, Senator Onowakpo-Thomas expressed his determination to ensure that all four ethnic groups within the district—Ijaw, Isoko, Itsekiri, and Urhobo—receive equitable representation and support.
