Petroleum Training Institute Welcomes Over 2,100 New Students
The Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), located in Efurun, Delta State, has officially welcomed 2,101 new students for the 2025/2026 academic session. The ceremony marked a significant milestone for the institution as it continues to foster talent in the oil and gas sector.
Dr. Onoji Emphasizes Integrity and Discipline
During the oath of admission ceremony, Principal and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Samuel Onoji underscored the importance of academic integrity. He urged students to refrain from all forms of misconduct and made it clear that the institute has a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding examination malpractice and other irregular behaviors. This message was further reinforced by Dr. Tina Isichei, the Director of Research and Development, who highlighted the gravity of issues such as physical and sexual assault, drug use, theft, and certificate forgery.
Commitment to a Positive Learning Environment
Dr. Onoji reiterated that the management of PTI does not condone any acts of social vice as outlined in the institute’s handbook. He emphasized that students who engage in misconduct would face severe consequences, thereby creating a supportive environment conducive to learning and personal growth.
Acknowledging Academic Achievement
Expressing enthusiasm for the new cohort, Dr. Onoji celebrated their success in gaining admission to a prestigious institution characterized by academic excellence. He also took a moment to congratulate parents, guardians, and sponsors for their vital role in nurturing the students and supporting their educational journeys.
The Role of Parental Support
In his remarks, Dr. Onoji appealed to parents to offer continuous financial and moral support throughout their children’s time at the Petroleum Training Institute. He highlighted the significance of this support in helping students navigate both academic and personal challenges.
Preparing Students for a Dynamic Industry
Dr. Onoji reminded students that the oil and gas industry is ever-changing and highly competitive. To succeed within this sector, he urged them to foster innovation, adaptability, and resourcefulness. He stressed the importance of being prepared to face the industry’s demands head-on during their academic tenure.
Utilizing Education Loan Opportunities
The Principal also encouraged new students to take advantage of the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), aimed at alleviating financial challenges for disadvantaged students in Nigerian educational institutions. He noted that these loans are interest-free and require repayment only once beneficiaries secure profitable employment or engage in viable business ventures. Dr. Onoji assured students that upon submission of their personal information, the loan disbursement process would occur within 30 days and advised them to consult the Student Affairs Department for guidance on how to apply.
