Nigeria’s Upcoming Election Cycle and the Call for Integrity
As Nigeria gears up for the upcoming election cycle, the Christ Global Network (CGN), an organization representing apostolic and Pentecostal bishops, has emphasized the critical need for reliable, peaceful, and transparent elections. With political expectations high, the CGN believes that the moral and spiritual rebirth of the nation is essential for its progress.
The Importance of the 2027 General Elections
The organization has identified the 2027 general elections as a pivotal moment for Nigeria’s future. Addressing existing challenges such as election-related tensions and incidents of violence, the CGN stresses the importance of proactive security measures and early conflict prevention strategies.
Progress and Persistent Challenges in Recent Elections
During the New Wine/Fresh Fire Conference 2026, Taiwo Akinola, CGN’s Apostolic Elder and the Founding President of Rhema Christian Church & Towers (RCC&T), highlighted both advancements and continuing issues in the electoral process. He noted that despite the integration of technological innovations, worries about voter turnout, institutional trust, and election transparency linger.
Challenges to Voter Participation
Akinola pointed out that low voter participation indicates a significant level of public skepticism and apathy, particularly among the youth. He urged for immediate action to address these concerns in order to bolster the legitimacy of Nigeria’s democracy.
Calls for Credibility and Integrity in Elections
The CGN has called upon the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure the electoral process remains transparent and credible as the 2027 elections approach. In addition, the organization appealed to security authorities to facilitate safe and violence-free elections. Politicians are urged to operate with integrity and focus on issue-based campaigns that promote national unity.
Guidelines for Political Actors and Voters
Leadership, according to the CGN, should be viewed as a sacred trust, not an opportunity for personal gain. The organization warns political actors against inflammatory rhetoric, manipulation, and fraud, advocating for a process guided by conscience and a commitment to national stability. Voters, too, are encouraged to make informed decisions rooted in competency and integrity.
A Call for Prayer and Unity within the Church
In anticipation of the 2027 general elections, the CGN has urged the Body of Christ and all believers to engage in committed prayer for the nation. Akinola emphasized the need for humility, wisdom, and a unifying purpose to foster the emergence of leaders who will govern with justice and respect for God.
Recognizing Nigeria’s Challenges and Opportunities
The CGN acknowledges that while Nigeria faces significant challenges, there are also opportunities for economic stabilization and security improvements. Akinola mentioned that any progress must be inclusive and intentional, promoting unity and accountability. With faith and solidarity, he believes Nigeria can navigate its current difficulties and emerge with renewed strength, peace, and shared prosperity.
Empowerment of Church Leaders
Addressing the role of the church, Israel Araya, presiding bishop of Dominion Bible Church International and treasurer of CGN, noted that the theme of the 2026 conference centers on empowering pastors through the Holy Spirit. He emphasized that church leaders must be spiritually ignited to effectively impact lives and encourage spiritual growth among worshipers.
