Ondo State Governor Allocates N50 Million for Women’s Empowerment
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State announced a significant allocation of N50 million aimed at empowering women, including widows and the elderly. During a meeting with representatives from various women’s organizations at the International Cultural Events Center in Akure, the governor emphasized the need to invest in the futures of women. He stated that his administration will continue to amplify women’s voices and champion their goals.
Establishment of Women’s Cooperative Association
Of the total amount, N10 million will be allocated to the creation of a multipurpose cooperative known as the “Odatiwa Women’s Cooperative Multipurpose Association.” This initiative is designed not only as an economic intervention but also as a step toward promoting inclusivity in governance.
Expanding Opportunities for Women in Governance
Governor Aiyedatiwa highlighted the importance of women’s participation in political and decision-making processes, arguing that a society cannot fully thrive while excluding half its population. He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to deepening these efforts and broadening opportunities for women across various sectors.
Grants to Empower Women and Launch Initiatives
In a show of commitment, the governor revealed that a total of N50 million has been approved to mark this year’s celebrations, with N40 million designated for grants aimed at empowering women. The remaining N10 million will support the official launch of the Odatiwa Women’s Cooperative Multipurpose Society.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Seun Osameh, the state Commissioner for Women and Social Development, emphasized the government’s ongoing commitment to policies that elevate women socially, economically, and politically. He highlighted the crucial role of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in creating opportunities and amplifying women’s voices.
Developing a Strategic Roadmap for Women’s Empowerment
Dr. Osameh noted that numerous empowerment programs implemented over the past year have significantly improved women’s livelihoods, restored dignity, and bolstered confidence throughout Ondo State. He proudly announced the launch of the Odatiwa Women Initiative Blueprint, which focuses on actionable pathways to ensure that all women can access the support they need to thrive and contribute to the nation’s growth.
