Former Employee Alleges Harassment and Retaliation at Mr. Beast YouTube LLC
A woman formerly employed by popular YouTube creator Mr. Beast is taking legal action, claiming that she experienced sexual harassment and retaliation by the company after her maternity leave. Lorraine Mavromatis has filed a federal lawsuit in the Eastern District of North Carolina against Mr. Beast YouTube LLC and Game Changer 24/7, both businesses owned by Jimmy Donaldson, whose online persona is Mr. Beast. Mavromatis is seeking unspecified damages to be determined by a jury.
Claims of Workplace Misconduct and Retaliation
The lawsuit portrays Mavromatis as a rising talent who received two promotions between 2022 and 2024. She alleges that following incidents of sexual harassment and her pregnancy, she faced retaliation that ultimately led to her demotion and termination in November 2025.
Raising Awareness About Workplace Issues
In an NBC News interview, Mavromatis expressed her motivation for pursuing the lawsuit, emphasizing the importance of her role as a mother in wanting to amplify her voice. She stated, “I really want to use my voice to raise awareness… We’re in 2026, and things like this are still happening.”
Company’s Response to Allegations
The company’s spokesperson responded to the lawsuit, characterizing it as based on “intentional misrepresentations and materially false statements.” They asserted, “There is extensive evidence… that unequivocally refutes her claims,” and declared their intention not to succumb to what they termed “opportunistic lawyers.” According to the spokesperson, Mavromatis was not terminated but was part of a broader company restructuring.
Environment Described as a ‘Boy’s Club’
The lawsuit describes the workplace culture at Mr. Beast as a “boy’s club,” where Mavromatis claims she was alienated from male-only meetings, belittled in front of colleagues, and subjected to inappropriate comments about her appearance. Mavromatis reportedly sought assistance from her supervisor regarding a wealthy client who allegedly made unwanted romantic advances, but her complaints were said to have been dismissed.
Concerns Over Hostile Work Environment
Mavromatis alleged that the company lacked formal procedures for addressing internal complaints, particularly relating to “confidential matters.” The complaint asserts that she felt filing a report could adversely affect her employment. The lawsuit also mentions her demotion to a social media manager role with diminished responsibilities and oversight after she returned from maternity leave.
Legal Issues Following Pregnancy Leave
After informing the company of her pregnancy, Mavromatis claims she was not afforded proper notice regarding her rights under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). Despite her medical challenges following her child’s birth, she alleges that she was pressured to continue working on essential projects. The lawsuit claims that such conditions fostered an environment where she feared repercussions for taking the leave she was entitled to.
