Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Sets IPL Records at a Young Age
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has made a remarkable mark in cricket history by becoming the youngest centurion in the Indian Premier League (IPL), achieving this feat just nine days after his record-setting debut at age 14 in 2025. Now 15, Sooryavanshi is rapidly gaining attention as a cricketing prodigy poised to shine on the international stage.
In his debut season with the Rajasthan Royals, he electrified fans by scoring a 35-ball century. This impressive display of skill continued into the 2026 IPL season, where he demonstrated his ability to perform under pressure yet again. Recently, he scored a stunning 36-ball century against Sunrisers Hyderabad, making him the youngest player to achieve 1,000 runs in Twenty20 cricket while also being the fastest player to do so.
Sooryavanshi’s 1,000 runs came from just 473 balls, which included 12 sixes and five boundaries, showcasing his aggressive batting style. The previous record holder, Australia’s Mitchell Owen, reached this milestone in 533 balls. Sooryavanshi’s latest century ranks as the third fastest in IPL history, following Chris Gayle’s legendary 30-ball ton in 2013 and Sooryavanshi’s own 35-ball achievement from last year.
Reflecting on his performance, Sooryavanshi stated that he focused on the ball and adjusted to the pitch conditions. His tactical approach includes assessing the opposing bowlers and visualizing his shots, a testament to his maturity despite his young age. He already boasts several extraordinary performances this season, including two fifties scored in just 15 balls against formidable teams like Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Peer and Captain Recognition
Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins lauded Sooryavanshi, affectionately calling him his new favorite player. Cummins expressed his admiration for the young batsman’s powerful hitting, emphasizing the excitement he brings to the game. He noted that Sooryavanshi’s rapid rise in cricket legitimately enhances the sport.
Player Insights and Future Prospects
Dhruv Jhuler, wicketkeeper and batsman for the Rajasthan Royals, marveled at Sooryavanshi’s extraordinary talent. He described his remarkable performance as akin to making cricket appear effortless, underscoring the challenges that lie behind the displays of skill shown by such a young player.
As discussions about his potential international debut heat up, questions arise regarding how long India can overlook Sooryavanshi. The nation boasts a plethora of emerging cricket stars, and with a successful T20 squad that recently claimed a World Cup victory, the selectors face a challenge. Nonetheless, exceptional talents like Sooryavanshi often demand attention, regardless of the existing team dynamics.
Upcoming International Opportunities
A busy summer filled with white-ball matches provides an excellent opportunity for Sooryavanshi to showcase his skills on the international stage. Should he not debut during the multi-format series against Afghanistan, he has subsequent chances to make an impact in the British Isles, where India is set to face Ireland and England in several T20Is and ODIs.
Whether this summer marks the beginning of his international career remains to be seen, but it is clear that Sooryavanshi is swiftly becoming a focal point of cricket conversation worldwide.
