Trump and Melania Criticize Kimmel Over Recent Comments
President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump recently expressed strong disapproval of late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, following remarks he made leading up to a violent incident outside the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.
In response to Kimmel’s parody segment aired on his show, President Trump demanded that Disney, the parent company of ABC, terminate Kimmel’s contract. The late-night comedian’s comments have become a focal point of controversy, especially given the heightened political climate and increasing threats against public figures.
On social media, President Trump condemned Kimmel’s skit as “absolutely shocking,” linking the comedian’s statements to a recent shooting that occurred during the dinner attended by political leaders and dignitaries. “So many people are outraged by Mr. Kimmel’s despicable calls for violence,” Trump stated, insisting that Kimmel should be held accountable and let go by ABC.
First Lady Melania Trump also weighed in, describing Kimmel’s rhetoric as “hateful and violent,” emphasizing that it aims to drive a wedge in the country. She criticized the normalization of such discourse, asserting that Kimmel’s words erode the moral fabric of American society and should not be allowed to infiltrate households nightly.
The incident occurred shortly before a gunman opened fire outside the Correspondents’ Association dinner, leading to an emergency evacuation of attendees. In a disturbing note left by the suspect, he suggested a motive that involved a perceived obligation to target officials from the Trump administration.
During a White House briefing, Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt echoed the First Lady’s sentiments, questioning Kimmel’s suitability in light of the recent violent events. The critiques of Kimmel come at a time when he is already facing scrutiny for previous comments related to politically charged incidents.
In the wake of these controversies, representatives from ABC and Disney have yet to issue a statement regarding the matter. This comes just months after Kimmel faced backlash for comments related to the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, which included a direct acknowledgment of the political tension surrounding the issue.
