Women’s Groups Back Governor Tinubu’s Re-election Bid
In a significant political development, a coalition of elders and supporters in Rivers State is openly challenging the directives issued by Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike. This group has taken steps to express interest in the re-election of Governor Siminalai Hubara of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by procuring nomination forms.
Leading this delegation is Hon. Hubala, who represents the Andoni/Opobo Nkoro Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. According to the Awaji Inombek Abiante newspaper, this initiative is driven by genuine concern for the welfare of the people of Rivers State. The effort coincides with the activities of Rivers Women Unite for SIM, alongside the Renewed Hope Women of Faith in Politics coalition, as they rally support for both President Bola Tinubu and Governor Hubala’s second-term aspirations.
Abiante stressed that this move reinforces public confidence in Hubala’s leadership. He contended that the decision arose from a national sentiment rather than personal ambition or financial capability. “This action is part of Nigeria’s entrenched democratic culture,” he commented, underlining that the democratic tradition allows stakeholders to support their preferred candidates regardless of their financial status.
“This is not a new phenomenon. At the national level, stakeholders have historically secured nomination forms for their chosen representatives,” Abiante remarked. He further asserted that the people of Rivers State have made their desire clear: they want continuity in leadership.
Hubala, he clarified, neither initiated nor orchestrated this movement; it emerged organically from the stakeholders’ desire to sustain the current direction of governance. “He didn’t send us,” Abiante explained. “This is the voice of the people being articulated by their leaders.” He praised the governor as a humble, people-centric leader who is responsive to the community’s needs.
Abiante noted Hubala’s achievements in infrastructure development and his commitment to improving access for previously neglected regions, particularly in the riverine areas. “Access, which has historically been a barrier in places like Andoni, has seen remarkable improvement in just a few months,” he said. “Now, once-isolated communities are poised to actively contribute to the blue economy.”
Meanwhile, Rivers Women United for SIM and the Renewed Hope Women of Faith in Politics played a prominent role in rallying support for Tinubu and Hubala. At a recent event, the coalition expressed their endorsement of both leaders, emphasizing the need for their re-election to sustain a transformative and people-centered agenda. “Currently, Rivers State is in God’s hands, and it is through Him that we find guidance and renewed hope for supporting Governor Siminalai Hubala and President Bola Tinubu,” they declared.
The coalition reiterated its belief that both the President and the Governor are dedicated to advancing Nigeria and Rivers State toward prosperity and stability. They cautioned that any efforts to deny the President and Governor the opportunity to see through their progressive reforms would jeopardize the substantial gains made in various sectors across Nigeria and local government areas in Rivers State, urging citizens to remain patient and supportive as these improvements take shape.
