Carter Efe Declares Himself Carter Mayweather After Boxing Victory
Social media comedian and streamer Carter Efe has firmly dismissed comparisons to heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua, asserting that he prefers to be known as Carter Mayweather. This declaration came in a post-fight interview following his victory at the Chaos in the Ring 4 event held at Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Victory in the Ring
Following a unanimous decision win over street artist Habeeb “Portable” Badmus, Efe responded to a fan in the audience who called him “Anthony Joshua.” Efe joyfully declared, “Who called me Anthony Joshua? My name is Carter Mayweather,” prompting enthusiastic cheers from the audience. He expressed his elation over his transformation into a boxing victor.
Boxing Performance and Ambitions
Feeling on top of the world, Efe proclaimed, “I feel like I’m an international world star.” His performance in the ring backed up his newfound alias. Efe delivered a commanding three-round display, showcasing exceptional skill that resulted in little doubt regarding the match’s outcome. “The fight was very easy. By the first round, I had his face swollen. By the second round, he was already shaking. In the third round, he collapsed,” he recounted.
Judges’ Scorecards Reflect Total Dominance
All three judges scored the bout 27-30 in favor of Efe, leading to Portable’s loss of his Celebrity Boxing King title. Prior to the match, Portable had promised to make Efe his third victim after claiming victories over Charles Okocha and Speed Darlington.
Looking Ahead to International Boxing
Relishing his newfound fame, Efe expressed aspirations to broaden his boxing career beyond Nigerian borders. “I just believed in God. If you believe in God, anything can happen. I would love to try this again on an international level. I know I will get there one day,” he stated. When asked about a potential rematch with Portable, Efe remained noncommittal, suggesting, “I’ll think about it. First, let me rest.”
Financial Rewards and Portable’s Reaction
The event also brought a financial boost, with Lagos socialite and businessman Emeka ‘Electronic Money’ Okonkwo confirming his pre-fight promise to award Efe 50 million naira for his victory. “You know we value money, so Mr. Carter, congratulations on your win. 50 million naira to you,” Okonkwo stated.
Portable’s Controversial Post-Fight Remarks
Nevertheless, Portable did not accept defeat gracefully. In a live Instagram video following the match, he claimed the outcome was unjust, accusing Efe of exploiting his height and reach advantages during the bout. “I got robbed. Carter Efe wasn’t professional enough. He was choking me with his long hands and height,” Portable lamented, insisting every punch he threw should have been counted, regardless of where it landed.
A New Chapter Amidst Personal Joy
Despite the setback, Portable attempted to maintain perspective, revealing that his wife had given birth to a healthy baby boy on the same night as the fight. “I value the birth of my child more than any belt. You can buy me a belt, but I can’t buy my child,” he said, emphasizing that family always takes precedence over sporting achievements.
