Pastor Adeboye Uses Personal Anecdote to Stress Importance of Marital Harmony
Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, recently shared a lighthearted yet poignant story about his experience with “Rapture Fear.” He recounted this personal tale to caution couples against going to bed with unresolved conflicts. His message was delivered during the Holy Spirit Service at Redemption City in May 2026.
In his address, the seasoned pastor underscored the importance of maintaining peace in the household. He emphasized that the uncertainty surrounding the timing of the Rapture should serve as a compelling reason for couples to resolve their disputes promptly.
Recalling a humorous incident from his trip to the United States, Adeboye described waking up in the middle of the night to find his wife, Pastor Fol Adeboye, missing from the bed. He initially thought she had gone to the bathroom, but after checking various restrooms and finding them empty, panic set in.
He elaborated, stating, “In a cold, air-conditioned room, I began to sweat as I feared the worst. I thought, ‘Oh God, you mean she’s gone and I’m left behind? What have I done? Why did you leave me behind?'” This moment of distress was only alleviated when the Holy Spirit reminded him that his wife had not accompanied him on that trip.
The congregation erupted in laughter as Adeboye recounted his experience. However, he seamlessly transitioned into a serious message about the importance of reconciling marital differences. He referenced a biblical prophecy, noting that during the Rapture, “two will be in one bed, one will be taken and the other will be left.” This biblical context served to reinforce his commitment to resolving issues with his wife before nighttime.
Having been married since 1967, Adeboye assured his audience that he considers himself to still be on his “honeymoon,” stating, “Under no circumstances will I go to bed without reconciling with my wife.” His advice was clear: couples should not let their anger linger until sunset.
As a final note, he shared a heartfelt prayer he offers every night: “Lord, if you’ll be back by tomorrow morning, don’t leave us.” In a previous discussion, Adeboye had emphasized the need for young people to consider more than just physical attraction when choosing a life partner, warning against the pitfalls of superficial reasons for marriage. He also made headlines recently by suggesting that God has already chosen Nigeria’s next president ahead of the 2027 general elections, asserting that divine intervention will ultimately prevail.
