Settlement Reached in Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni Legal Dispute
The legal conflict between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, co-stars of the film “It Ends With Us,” has officially ended with a settlement agreement reached by their lawyers on Monday, avoiding a trial that was scheduled for later this month.
Details of the settlement remain undisclosed following a court-ordered settlement conference held last week, which concluded the prolonged legal battle between the two parties.
At the center of the controversy were allegations made by Lively, who accused Baldoni of sexual harassment during the production of the film in 2024. She also claimed that Baldoni’s production company, Wayfarer Studios, retaliated against her after she reported alleged misconduct on the set.
Baldoni has firmly denied Lively’s allegations, maintaining his position throughout the legal proceedings.
In a joint statement released on Monday, the attorneys representing both parties—Brian Friedman, Erin Garofalo, Michael Gottlieb, and Esra Hudson—expressed pride in the final production of “It Ends With Us.” They emphasized their commitment to raising awareness and positively impacting the lives of survivors of domestic violence.
The lawyers acknowledged the difficulties that arose during the process and affirmed the importance of hearing and addressing Lively’s concerns. They reiterated their commitment to fostering a respectful workplace environment, hoping the settlement allows everyone to move forward peacefully.
Previously, U.S. District Judge Louis J. Lehman had dismissed several of Lively’s allegations against Baldoni, including claims of harassment and defamation, but permitted three claims related to breach of contract and retaliation to proceed to trial.
Lively publicly disclosed her allegations in December 2024, shortly after the film’s theatrical release. Initially, she filed a complaint with the California Department of Civil Rights before moving to a federal lawsuit accusing Baldoni of sexual harassment and fostering a hostile work environment. This included allegations of inappropriate comments and actions by Baldoni, as well as accusations of a coordinated retaliation scheme led by him and Wayfarer Studios to silence her and others.
The situation further escalated in January 2025 when Baldoni countersued Lively and her husband, actor Ryan Reynolds, for defamation and extortion, claiming they sought to tarnish his reputation. He also initiated a libel suit against The New York Times regarding an article on Hollywood’s reputation-damaging dynamics; however, both suits were dismissed by Judge Lehman in the past year.
This highly publicized case has had significant implications across the entertainment industry, shedding light on workplace culture and communication surrounding sexual harassment. Lively’s private messages, including those with Reynolds and Taylor Swift, were also made public as a result of the lawsuit, exposing both the intricacies and challenges of navigating such allegations in Hollywood.
