Labor Party Commends Alex Otti’s Leadership in Nomination Award
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Labor Party recognized Abia State Governor Alex Otti with a complimentary nomination on Friday, highlighting his embodiment of the party’s foundational principles through his leadership and inclusive governance approach.
Recognition at Abuja Meeting
This official acknowledgment took place during a meeting at the governor’s lodge in Abuja, where party leaders presented Otti with free gubernatorial candidate nomination forms ahead of the 2027 elections.
Celebrating Core Values
Labor Party National Chairman Nenadi Usman applauded Governor Otti for effectively expressing the party’s commitment to social justice and equal opportunities for all Nigerians. He remarked, “We are here today to collectively express our gratitude for your exemplary leadership and for serving as a true representative of the Labor Party, particularly for the people of Abia State.”
Inclusive Governance Model Praised
Usman further noted Otti’s distinctive approach to politics, emphasizing that he does not adopt a zero-sum or “winner-takes-all” mentality. “You have succeeded, yet you also uplift those who did not win, earning their admiration,” Usman stated.
Confidence in Leadership
As he presented the free gubernatorial nomination forms, Usman explained that the NWC collectively decided to grant all Labor Party nomination forms in Abia State to Otti, signifying their confidence in his leadership capabilities. Earlier, the party’s National Secretary, Iheanacho Obioma, referred to Governor Otti as the face of the Labor Party’s resurgence, asserting that Nigerians take pride in his accomplishments.
Commitment to Party Unity
In his response, Otti expressed gratitude to the party leaders for what he termed an exceptional gesture. “I thank the National Working Committee for the complimentary gubernatorial nomination form,” he stated, acknowledging the leadership’s efforts to stabilize the party amid recent internal challenges. He commended them for avoiding pitfalls and fostering unity within the party.
Future Focus on Strengthening Structures
Otti emphasized that with the legal challenges behind them, it is crucial to focus on rebuilding and strengthening the party’s institutional frameworks. “The only way forward now is up,” he remarked. Darlington Nwokocha, the soon-to-be caretaker national secretary of the party, also took the opportunity to collect the nomination form for the Abia Central Senatorial Zone, underscoring Otti’s transformative impact on political culture within the party.
The meeting, which boasted a strong attendance including Labor Party MPs, was led by caucus leader Ginger Obinna Onwusibe along with key figures such as Oluchi Opara, National Organization Secretary-General, Hilda Dokubo, National Women Leader, and Ken Elma Asogwa, National Publicity Secretary. Members of the Abia State Executive Council were also present, reinforcing the party’s commitment to unity and progress.
