Junior Achievement Africa and ExxonMobil Foundation Introduce STEM Africa 2.0 Initiative
Junior Achievement (JA) Africa, in collaboration with the ExxonMobil Foundation, has announced the launch of the 2026 ExxonMobil Foundation STEM Africa Program. This initiative aims to equip young Africans with essential skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), as well as artificial intelligence (AI).
Building on Established Partnerships
Building on previous successes, the program has already engaged over 10,000 young participants from Angola, Mozambique, Namibia, and Nigeria. The latest iteration, STEM Africa 2.0, seeks to integrate AI learning pathways, targeting an additional 4,000 students aged 14 to 17, preparing them for success in a rapidly changing digital economy.
Addressing Africa’s Critical Skill Gaps
This launch is particularly timely for Africa, where access to STEM education and digital skills remains limited despite a rapidly expanding youth population. The program emphasizes hands-on learning, mentorship from industry experts, and real-world problem-solving, empowering young people to engage meaningfully in emerging sectors such as energy, sustainability, and digital innovation.
A Comprehensive Learning Experience
Participants will embark on a structured four-stage learning journey that includes STEM and AI quizzes, zonal competitions, a national innovation camp, and a final continental showcase at the Africa Energy Week conference. This multi-faceted approach transcends classroom learning, enabling students to devise practical solutions to real-world challenges while fostering confidence, collaboration, and critical thinking skills.
