Iroko-Ekiti School Receives Modern Science Laboratory Boost
Iroko-Ekiti Comprehensive High School has taken a significant step forward in enhancing its educational offerings with the inauguration of a state-of-the-art science laboratory complex aimed at fostering practical science education and hands-on learning experiences for students.
This fully funded facility was donated by Dr. Opeyemi Abe, a native of Iroko-Ekiti and a medical professional. The unveiling ceremony drew praise from various stakeholders, including government officials, traditional leaders, educators, and local citizens, all recognizing it as a transformative initiative for public education.
The new solar-powered complex features two well-equipped laboratory halls, faculty offices, storage areas, restrooms, and four modern toilet facilities for both students and staff. This infrastructure is poised to enhance the teaching of biology, chemistry, and physics, aimed at significantly raising academic standards at the decade-old institution.
In his address, Dr. Abe expressed his dedication to advancing education and youth development. He emphasized the vital role of education in societal growth, stating, “Education is one of the greatest investments anyone can make. It serves as the foundation for community progress, national development, and a secure future.”
The medical expert highlighted that the project was designed to provide students with practical science exposure. He encouraged students to seize the opportunities presented by the new facilities, reminding them that this school has the potential to nurture future doctors, engineers, scientists, inventors, and national leaders. “Never underestimate the power of education and determination,” he advised.
Hon. Biodun Omoleye, the Member of Parliament for Ekiti Central Federal Constituency 2, lauded the initiative as a timely enhancement for the school. He remarked, “Without a suitable science laboratory, this school was incomplete. With this new equipment center, its credentials as a comprehensive educational institution have been solidified.” He further acknowledged Dr. Abe’s generosity, calling for national recognition of such philanthropic efforts.
Emphasizing the importance of maintaining the new facilities, he urged teachers and school administrators to ensure their longevity. “This is another step towards improving educational quality and elevating student learning outcomes,” he stated, while also unveiling plans for further contributions, including a fully equipped ultra-modern library powered by solar energy.
Mrs. Roda Ojo, representing the Secretary of Education and TESCOM Chairman, praised the initiative as a prime example of community-driven development. “The Iroko community’s commitment to education and development is commendable and should inspire other communities to contribute positively to society,” she noted.
The Oruroe of Iloko, Oba Sunday Ekundayo, also recognized Dr. Abe for his dedication to educational advancement within the community. He urged state authorities to bolster these efforts by providing additional school infrastructure. “Such support will motivate our indigenous populations to strive harder for educational progress,” he suggested. Traditional leaders in attendance echoed this sentiment, reiterating the importance of prioritizing education for a brighter future. “Students should take their studies seriously, and parents must continue to provide encouragement and support,” he concluded.
