Babajide Pledges Inclusive Governance in Ogun State
Rotimi Babajide, the United Peoples Movement’s candidate for the Ogun State governorship in the upcoming 2027 elections, promises to establish an inclusive and transparent government that prioritizes the needs of its citizens. An established urban planning expert, Babajide believes that effective governance should involve broad participation, accountability, and shared prosperity.
In a recent interview following his selection as the party’s flag bearer, Babajide addressed rumors concerning Senator Olamilekan Adeola, better known as Yai, suggesting he poses a significant challenge to Babajide’s electoral ambitions. The gubernatorial candidate emphasized that political competition is a vital aspect of democracy.
Describing his candidacy as the realization of a long-held aspiration, Babajide conveyed gratitude to party supporters who strive for a new leadership approach in Nigeria. “I feel elated and fulfilled. It’s a dream come true and a day we’ve all been waiting for,” he remarked.
As he outlined his vision for Ogun State, Babajide underscored inclusive governance as a fundamental value of his prospective administration. He is committed to ensuring that every resident, regardless of political affiliation, ethnic background, or social status, feels a sense of belonging within the government’s framework. “My administration will prioritize a people-centered approach where each individual is valued,” he added.
Adding to his vision, Babajide highlighted infrastructure development, rural transformation, and agricultural expansion as critical priorities. He noted that Ogun’s emerging status as an industrial hub should translate into tangible benefits for its residents. “All resources derived from the state should directly improve the lives of the people,” he stated, emphasizing that the ultimate goal is to ensure the residents of Ogun State are the true beneficiaries of their state’s resources.
As political activity intensifies in anticipation of the 2027 elections, Babajide dismissed suggestions that rival parties pose a significant threat to his candidacy. He argued that leadership should be based on vision and service rather than mere popularity or larger crowds. “I don’t view anyone as a threat. Our focus should be on providing meaningful leadership for our people,” he affirmed.
Idowu Imolejo, the party’s candidate for the Ogun Central Senatorial District, echoed Babajide’s sentiments, urging voters to reject any form of money-driven politics. He expressed confidence in his campaign despite lacking the financial backing of candidates from other parties. “All victories belong to God. Though I may not have the financial clout of others, I believe in myself and God’s support throughout this race,” he stated.
Imolejo also criticized the current administration, pointing out inadequacies in sectors such as healthcare, education, and security. “Our people deserve better governance,” he contended, highlighting the pressing challenges residents face in accessing essential services.
Abayomi Sanyaolu, the state chairman of the party, expressed confidence that the APM will surprise voters in the forthcoming governorship election. He asserted that success relies not on financial power or crowd size, but on the candidate’s connection with the community and divine intervention. “Life is not defined by wealth, but by the impact one has on people’s lives,” Sanyaolu declared as he praised Babajide’s understanding of local needs and aspirations.
