Ogun State Government Addresses Security Concerns Amid Misinformation
The Ogun State government has firmly rebutted recent social media claims that Fulani herdsmen, Boko Haram insurgents, and other terrorist groups are planning to invade the region. In an official statement from Hon. Kayode Akinmado, the Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to Governor Dapo Abiodun, it was emphasized that current security intelligence confirms Ogun State remains safe.
Officials urged residents to remain calm and not fall prey to the misinformation designed to instill panic and fear within the community. There is no basis for the claims suggesting an imminent security threat, and the government reassured citizens of ongoing vigilance by local authorities.
The statement highlighted that security agencies in Ogun State are actively on high alert and have implemented appropriate measures to counter any attempts by criminal elements to disrupt public peace. Akinmado expressed concern over the spread of unfounded rumors indicating a threat from armed groups, asserting that security forces are prepared to address any such challenges.
He remarked, “The reality is that there is no credible threat of an invasion by terrorist factions. Security personnel throughout the state are in a heightened state of readiness, having taken proactive steps to deter any individuals or groups intent on inciting unrest.”
Akinmado pointed out that some individuals are leveraging security issues in other parts of the country to generate unnecessary fear among Ogun residents. This behavior is not only irresponsible but also contributes to unwarranted anxiety among the populace.
The government has taken decisive action, with several individuals arrested for spreading false narratives on social media. These offenders are being prosecuted to deter others from engaging in similar activities, which can incite panic and threaten public order. “The government will continue working alongside security agencies to hold accountable those responsible for disseminating misinformation,” Akinmado stated.
Further reinforcing their commitment to security, the Ogun State government is collaborating closely with law enforcement and traditional institutions to enhance community engagement and peacekeeping measures. This integrated strategy combines modern security frameworks with traditional methodologies to bolster intelligence sharing and proactive responses to potential threats.
Governor Dapo Abiodun has made public safety a priority through continued investment in security infrastructure and the deployment of innovative technology for surveillance and crime prevention. Residents are encouraged to rely on official communication channels for accurate information and to refrain from sharing unverified claims that could contribute to public panic.
While Akinmado assured that security forces are fully prepared to protect communities, he implored citizens to remain vigilant and act as responsible members of society. The state’s proactive approach ensures that Ogun remains a safe and secure environment conducive to business activities and community well-being. To report safety concerns or for assistance, the Ogun State Police Command encourages the public to contact their toll-free numbers.
The government reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and stability in Ogun State, urging community cooperation in fostering a secure living environment. All actions taken reflect a shared responsibility for safety, as residents are called to provide timely information to support security initiatives.
