Investigation Underway into Shooting of Accord Party Chairman
The Osun State Police Command has initiated an investigation following the shooting death of Asimiyu Ajibola, the Chairman of the Accord Party, in Osogbo Local Government Area.
Details of the Attack
Mr. Ajibola sustained gunshot wounds from armed assailants in the MDS area of Osogbo on Wednesday night. He is currently receiving treatment at the Osun State University Teaching Hospital.
Police Response and Ongoing Investigations
According to police spokesperson Abiodun Ojeelabi, the incident occurred around 9:50 p.m. when two armed men on motorcycles reportedly opened fire on Ajibola. The police responded to a distress call, swiftly evacuating the victim to a medical facility while beginning a manhunt for the attackers.
Current Condition of the Victim
Ojeelabi stated, “A team of police officers quickly evacuated the victim to a medical facility where he is currently undergoing treatment. Medical personnel have confirmed that Mr. Ajibola is stable and responding positively to treatment.” Concurrently, operational teams have embarked on a comprehensive search for the perpetrators. Preliminary investigations at the scene have yielded evidence that is currently undergoing forensic analysis.

Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan has mandated a thorough investigation into the shooting, instructing relevant units to allocate all necessary resources to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack. Alimi noted that one of Ajibola’s companions reported that gunmen opened fire on their vehicle around 9:50 p.m. as they returned from the MDS area. Residents were evacuated to the Dugbe District Police Headquarters for safety as the attackers fled the scene. Urging security agencies to act diligently, Alimi stated, “This unfortunate incident must not go unaddressed. The perpetrators should be arrested, and the investigation should be conducted professionally to uncover the masterminds of the attack, which appears to have political implications.”
