The Anioma State Creation Movement has issued a strong warning that decades of efforts to establish Anioma State might be at risk due to potential threats to the re-election of Senator Ned Nwoko. The organization believes that the aspirations of the residents across the nine local government areas of Anioma in Delta State could be jeopardized at a critical juncture in the state creation process.
In a statement released by Mr. Tony Ogana, Media Director of the Anioma State Creation Movement, Senator Nwoko was lauded as a tireless advocate for the cause. The group emphasized his commitment, highlighting the considerable time and personal funds he has invested in promoting the statehood campaign. They noted that no individual in Anioma’s history has made such significant sacrifices for the community’s liberation.
The statement referred to the accolades Nwoko has received from his fellow senators, who have recognized his dedication with multiple commendations for his service to the legislative body and the bill supporting statehood. However, the movement is concerned that ongoing delays in the state creation process stem from divisive and self-serving political actions by opponents of the initiative.
As articulated in the statement, “The delay in establishing the state is rooted in the unpatriotic and divisive politics of those who resist the formation of a nation designed to empower and liberate its citizens.” Nwoko’s convincing success in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries reflects the community’s belief in the Anioma State project and its long-term benefits for future generations.
Furthermore, the Anioma State Creation Movement reaffirmed its support for Nwoko’s leadership, asserting that community members view themselves as direct beneficiaries of the initiative. The statement emphasized the potential economic benefits, underscoring how Nwoko’s vision could lead to job creation, increased appointments, and overall enhanced living conditions for all Anioma residents, regardless of their background.
As part of their appeal, the movement encouraged the APC leadership and President Bola Tinubu to ensure fairness and justice for Senator Nwoko and the citizens of Anioma, highlighting their loyalty to both the party and the president. “As dedicated citizens of Nigeria and supporters of President Tinubu, we urge the APC officials and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to deliver justice for Ned Nwoko and the entire Anioma nation,” the statement continued.
Lastly, the Anioma State Creation Movement cautioned the APC to remain vigilant against individuals who feign loyalty while secretly supporting opposition candidates. “We must ensure that our community is not undermined by those who never truly backed the APC,” the statement concluded, emphasizing the critical nature of unity and integrity in political support.
