Police Operatives Neutralize Kidnappers and Rescue Former Minister’s Family
In a significant operation, members of the Nigeria Police Force successfully rescued Mrs. Olade Busayo John Paul, the sister of former Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu, along with her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul. The rescue, which occurred three days after their abduction, was executed in Ibadan, Oyo State. The family had been taken hostage last Wednesday morning while en route to a school.
During the rescue operation, which began at 7:30 PM, police engaged in a gunfight with the kidnappers, resulting in the death of two suspects and the recovery of two firearms. Through diligent intelligence work and strategic pressure, law enforcement was able to confront the kidnappers effectively, leading to the family’s safe recovery. Femi Awogboro, a media assistant to Adelabu, confirmed the news of the rescue and reported communication with the Oyo State Commissioner of Police regarding the incident.
Nigerian Air Force Pledged to Assist in Schoolchildren’s Rescue
Simultaneously, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, Chief of Air Staff, reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s (NAF) commitment to supporting the safe recovery of abducted schoolchildren and their teachers in Oyo State. He made this statement during the NAF’s 2026 Q2 Route March Exercise in Abuja. Represented by Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Abdullahi, Aneke emphasized the importance of collaboration with various security agencies to protect lives and enhance national security.
Aneke highlighted that a physically fit workforce is essential for modern military operations and contributes significantly to national security efforts. He also acknowledged President Bola Tinubu for his ongoing support and commended the dedication of military personnel in safeguarding the nation.
Call for National Unity Amidst Rising Insecurity
In response to increasing insecurity in Nigeria, former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, has called for national unity and collective responsibility. Expressing concern over the recent wave of violence affecting communities across the country, Yari urged Nigerians to unite, stressing that the pain of one is felt by all. He emphasized that such tumultuous times should not divide the nation but instead reinforce its common destiny.
Yari condemned the senseless violence perpetrated by bandits and kidnappers, underscoring their indiscriminate targeting of innocent Nigerians, regardless of ethnic or religious affiliations. He appealed for a collective response that transcends division, urging Nigerians to work together against those who aim to instill fear and distrust among the populace.
Appeal for Community Resilience and Vigilance
Yari emphasized that security should not be solely seen as the responsibility of government and armed forces. He appealed to every citizen to take part in fostering a safe environment through vigilance and community engagement. The senator called on traditional and religious leaders, as well as civil society organizations, to strengthen community bonds and promote peace.
Asserting that this is not a time for despair, Yari concluded with a message of hope and resilience. He urged Nigerians to stand united, support those on the front lines of security, and work collaboratively to thwart criminal activities that threaten the nation’s stability. Such unity, according to Yari, is crucial for overcoming the current challenges and ensuring that Nigeria emerges stronger.
