Officials Praise Efforts to Enhance Education Amid Security Challenges
The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (RTD), and Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, lauded President Bola Tinubu for his commitment to improving education in Nigeria. They emphasized that collaboration with civil rights and community security organizations is crucial in combating banditry, terrorism, and other pressing security issues in the country.
Inauguration of Kaduna Christian Academy Highlights Educational Initiatives
The officials made their remarks during the inauguration of the Kaduna Christian Academy, a faith-based institution established for the Christian community by a close associate of the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr. Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi. Notably, friends of the DSS chief had previously contributed to the establishment of an Islamic school for the Muslim community in Dambusiya, located in Chikun Local Government Area, back in May 2025.
Education as a Non-Kinetic Approach to National Defense
Minister Musa described the academy as a vital non-kinetic intervention, stating that effective national defense transcends military might, intelligence operations, and aerial capabilities. He stressed that enduring security hinges on overcoming ignorance and despair. “When we discuss national defense, we often concentrate on military strategies; however, true security is rooted in dispelling ignorance and fostering hope,” he stated, acknowledging the school as a platform for substantive education.
Community and Trust: Keys to Internal Security
He commended the DSS for extending its traditional security mandate to include community development initiatives, illustrating that internal security relies not only on surveillance and enforcement but also on earning public trust. An educated populace, he argued, can better resist extremism and crime, making schools instrumental in providing essential academic and moral education.
Personal Story Inspires Commitment to Education
Recalling his own humble beginnings, Musa urged parents to prioritize their children’s education, emphasizing that each child has the potential to achieve greatness through dedication and learning. He noted that security and governance in Kaduna State have markedly improved due to collaborative efforts among federal, state, and local governments, praising Governor Sani for promoting inclusive growth and peaceful coexistence.
Unity in Action: A Call to the Southern Kaduna Community
Addressing the residents of southern Kaduna, Musa commended their resilience and peaceful demeanor, urging them to resist divisive forces aiming to disrupt regional harmony. He underscored the importance of community support in the fight against criminal elements, warning that local collaborators often facilitate the activities of bandits and terrorists.
Investing in the Future Through Education
During the ceremony, Governor Sani reaffirmed the state’s commitment to expanding educational access as a pillar of future development. He remarked through the state Attorney General, Mr. James Cunnip, that education serves as a powerful driver of individual and collective progress. “Every classroom built represents an opportunity for learning. Each educated child strengthens a community, and investment in education paves the way for a prosperous future,” he stated.
A Collective Vision for Holistic Development
Pastor John Joseph Hayabu of the Northern 19 States Christian Association of Nigeria echoed these sentiments, asserting that the DSS has recognized education as a vital tool in tackling insecurity and poverty. He described the academy as more than just a new building; it symbolizes hope, growth, and opportunity for future generations. Meanwhile, the Chief Imam of Sultan Bello Mosque, Professor Suleiman Adamu, praised the DSS DG for fostering interreligious cooperation by supporting educational initiatives across both Christian and Muslim communities.
Addressing Root Causes of Insecurity with Educational Initiatives
Malam Moussa Suleiman, representing Friends of the DSS Secretary-General, emphasized that education remains one of the most effective solutions to the systemic causes of insecurity. The multifaceted approach combining education, community engagement, and social development is essential for establishing lasting peace and security in Nigeria.
