Tinubu Launches Key Expressway in Abuja to Boost Connectivity
President Bola Tinubu inaugurated the main carriageway of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) on Tuesday, a vital infrastructure development that links Ring Road I to Ring Road II in Abuja. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to enhance connectivity and stimulate economic activities within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Commitment to Infrastructure Development
Represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Tinubu highlighted that completing this strategic corridor exemplifies his administration’s commitment to a comprehensive infrastructure agenda. He underscored that such projects are essential for fostering growth, improving mobility, and enhancing living standards across Nigeria.
Focus on Project Completion
The President emphasized the government’s resolve to complete all ongoing projects, asserting that unfinished projects would soon be a thing of the past. “We do not start projects to abandon them,” he stated, adding that both initiated and inherited projects would be completed under his administration.
Infrastructure as a Catalyst for Economic Growth
Tinubu noted that infrastructure serves as a crucial enabler of economic expansion. He pointed out that the completion of the OSEX roadway would strengthen connectivity between vital sectors of Abuja, thereby creating new commercial and investment opportunities. “Investing in our roads is fundamental to creating jobs and alleviating commuter hardships,” he said.
Milestones of the OSEX Project
Referencing the different phases of the OSEX project, the President recounted that work commenced with the section from Villa Roundabout to Ring Road I in 2024. The subsequent phase saw the completion of a 15-kilometer service carriageway in 2025, culminating in the latest section linking Ring Road I to Ring Road II.
Recognition of the FCT Minister’s Efforts
Tinubu commended Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike for his proactive and results-driven approach to infrastructure development. He noted that the transformations within the FCT are a product of focused leadership and determination, highlighting the importance of accountability in public service.
Progress in Infrastructure Development Across the FCT
Earlier in the event, Minister Wike acknowledged that the successful realization of the OSEX project was made possible through effective coordination with the contractor, CGC Nigeria Limited. He stated that the project’s timely completion was ensured by diligent site inspections and emphasized that ongoing infrastructure efforts will continue to be prioritized. Wike also mentioned that a significant portion of current projects were inherited from the previous administration, aligning with the government’s continuity policy by recognizing that public projects must not be abandoned.
Vision for Urban Expansion and Modernization
The Minister of State for FCT, Mariya Mahmoud, stated that the OSEX project marks a significant milestone in the capital’s infrastructure renewal initiatives. He praised the government’s focus on strategic investments, asserting that these developments translate policy goals into real improvements in mobility and urban living. The OSEX corridor is poised to alleviate traffic congestion, enhance connectivity, and support the broader urban expansion plans for the FCT.
