Federal Revenue Distribution for April Announced by FAAC
The Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) has announced a total distribution of N2.257 trillion in federal revenue for April 2026. This allocation will be shared among the federal government, states, and local governments across the nation.
Details of the Allocation Release
The announcement came via a press release from the Accountant General of the Federation following a recent FAAC meeting held in Abuja in May 2026. The communiqué confirmed that the distribution for April consists of N1.26 trillion in distributable statutory income, N747.088 billion in value-added tax (VAT) revenue, and an additional N250 billion augmentation fund.
Gross Revenue Analysis for April 2026
In terms of total gross revenue, the figures for April 2026 reached N3.184 trillion after accounting for various deductions, including revenue collection expenses, remittances, refunds, and savings. Notably, recovery cost deductions amounted to N113.756 billion, while remittances and refunds totaled N813.839 billion.
Distribution Among Government Tiers
From this allocation, the federal government received N787.351 billion, each state was allocated N772.360 billion, and local government councils garnered N540.152 billion. Additionally, a sum of N157.254 billion was set aside as a 13% share derived from revenues generated by mineral-producing states.
Importance of Monthly Allocations
The FAAC is crucial in the financial landscape, as it determines the revenue distribution that funds public services, salaries, capital projects, and other obligations at various government levels. Monthly allocations play a pivotal role, especially for local governments, which often depend heavily on these funds to fulfill their fiscal responsibilities.
Implications of the April Allocation
The April distribution is particularly significant as many local governments still rely on FAAC funding to satisfy essential fiscal duties. For numerous states and local governments, especially those with limited domestic revenue sources, the monthly inflow from FAAC serves as the backbone for budgetary compliance. These funds support civil servant salaries, healthcare services, educational systems, local infrastructure, and public safety initiatives.
Revenue Performance Trends
Recent reports indicate an improvement in revenue performance in several key tax categories. The gross statutory revenue for April 2026 was pegged at N2.378 trillion, reflecting an increase of N678.224 billion from March. Particularly, VAT revenues experienced a notable rise, suggesting growth in consumption-related tax inflows. However, the performance varied across different revenue streams, with corporate income tax and VAT seeing increases, while other sources like petroleum profits tax and excise duties showed declines.
Within the N1.26 trillion statutory revenue, the federal government received N580.942 billion, states received N294.661 billion, local governments obtained N227.172 billion, and the allocation for oil-producing states as a derivation totaled N157.254 billion. The VAT allocation was distributed as follows: N74.79 billion to the federal government, N410.898 billion to states, and N261.481 billion to local governments, with the additional N250 billion augmentation fund divided into N131.7 billion for the federal government, N66.8 billion for states, and N51.5 billion for local councils.
